Rotz and Chesnavich Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District Women's Basketball Team

Philadelphia, Pa. (February 4, 2010) -University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s basketball players Melissa Rotz and Erin Chesnavich were named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District 2 women's basketball team as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Rotz (Central Dauphin High School/Harrisburg, Pa.), a junior, was chosen as a second team selection while Chesnavich (Bishop O’Reilly High School/Pittston, Pa.) , a senior was named as a third team selection in balloting done by District 2 sports information directors. Rotz and Chesnavich both earned third team honors in 2009.......more

Devils Rally Falls Short (2/4/10)

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s basketball team nearly erased a 15-point second half deficit but came up short as they lost their second straight game in the state of Delaware, this time to Goldey-Beacom College, 56-52.

The loss drops the Devils record to 9-9 overall and 5-6 in Central Atlantic collegiate Conference games. Goldey-Beacom improves to 11-9 overall and 7-5 in league play.

Caitlin Shaw (Monmouth Regional HS/Eatontown, N.J.) led the Devils with 20 points while Melissa Rotz (Central Dauphin HS/Harrisburg, Pa.) added a season-high 10. Marissa Chesnavich (Bishop O’Reilly HS/Pittston, Pa.) grabbed 11 rebounds to lead all players. Alyssa Hamm (Academy Park HS/Sharon Hill, Pa.) had five assists and Shaw had a career high six steals.............more

Wildcats Snap Devils Win Streak (2/2/10)

The best shooting team in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference was anything but that Tuesday night as Wilmington University snapped the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s basketball team’s five-game win streak with a 63-53 win at the Pratt Center in New Castle, Delaware.

The loss drops the Devils record to 9-8 overall and 5-5 in CACC games. Wilmington moves ½-game ahead of the Devils in the conference standings, upping their CACC record to 6-5. The Wildcats are 9-10 overall.............more

Devils Defeat Chargers for Fifth Straight Win (1/30/10)

Caitlin Shaw recorded her second consecutive double-double as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball team hung on to defeat Dominican College 45-42 Saturday afternoon at the Bobby Morgan Arena.

The win boosts the Devils record to 9-7 overall and 5-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Dominican College falls to 10-8 overall and 7-3 in league play.

Shaw (Monmouth Regional HS/Eatontown, N.J.) led all scorers with 14 points while pulling down a career-high 15 rebounds.............more

Devils Defeat Firebirds in OT (1/28/10)

A key basket by Melissa Rotz and a free throw from Sarah Hickman helped secure a 66-64 overtime victory for the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball team Thursday night as they defeated University of the District of Columbia at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia.

USP climbs above the .500 mark for the first time this season with an 8-7 record. UDC falls to 8-13.

Marissa Chesnavich (Bishop O’Reilly HS/Pittston, Pa.) led the Devils with 16 points (7-9 FG) and Caitlin Shaw (Monomuth Regional HS/Eatontown, N.J.) recorded a double-double with 15 points (4-7 FG, 7-10 FT) and 12 rebounds. Devils Hang on to Defeat Rams (1/26/10)

Erin Chesnavich recorded a double-double and led three USP players in double figures as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s basketball team built a big lead early in the game and hung on to defeat Philadelphia University 71-64 Tuesday night at the Gallagher Center in Philadelphia.

The Devils improve to 7-7 overall and 4-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Philadelphia University falls to 7-9 overall and 5-3 in league play. On the sidelines, the game featured new USP head coach Paul Stadelberger, going up against his mentor and head coach of the Rams, Tom Shirley. Stadelberger was an assistant under Shirley for 20 seasons before taking the head coaching position at USP this past summer. Shirley’s daughter Kristen is also a member of the USP coaching staff.

Chesnavich (Bishop O’Reilly HS/Pittston, Pa.) led all players with 19 points (7-12 FG, 5-6 FT) while grabbing 15 rebounds...........more

Double-digit Deficit No Problem for Devils (1/23/10)

The odds were against the University of the Sciences Women’s Basketball Team during Saturday’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference crossover game against Felician College – their best player on the bench with foul trouble and trailing by ten points with less than nine minutes remaining. However the Devils overcame the odds; erased the deficit and recorded a 62-58 win over Felician College Saturday afternoon in Rutherford, New Jersey.

The win improves the Devils record to 6-7 overall and 3-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Felician falls to 9-6 overall, and 3-4 in league play..........more

Devils Defeat Griffins (1/21/10)

Caitlin Shaw and Erin Chesnavich recorded double-doubles to led four players in double figures as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s basketball team defeated Chestnut Hill College 56-48 at the Sorgenti Arena in Philadelphia Thursday night.

The Devils improve to 5-7 overall with the win and 2-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference games. Chestnut Hill falls to 2-13 overall and 1-6 in league play.

Lions Roar Past Devils in Second Half (1/19/10)

Georgian Court University’s Shaniqua Bacote and Lauren Staats combined for 28 points in the second half as they rallied from a three point deficit to defeat the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s basketball team 67-61 at GCU’s Wellness Center in Lakewood, New Jersey Tuesday night.

The loss drops the Devils record to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Lions improve to 5-10 overall, 3-5 in league games.

Caitlin Shaw (Monmouth Regional HS/Eatontown, N.J.) led the Devils with 18 points, connecting on four of nine shots from the field and recording a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line........more

Hot Shooting Devils Handle Shock (1/16/10)

Alyssa Hamm recorded a double-double and Erin Chesnavich did not miss a shot from the field as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s basketball team cruised to a 79-46 win over Washington Adventist University Saturday evening in Takoma Park, Maryland.

The win improves the Devils record to 4-6. The Shock fall to 0-18.

Chesnavich Named Sam Cozen Small College Player of the Week

Philadelphia, Pa. (January 12, 2010) - University of the Sciences women's basketball player Erin Chesnavich (Bishop O’Reilly High School/Pittston, Pa.) was honored as the Sam Cozen Small College Player of the Week by the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association at their luncheon Tuesday at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.........

..........Chesnavich has started all nine games for the Devils this season and is the Devils leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 13.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Erin also leads the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) in field goal shooting percentage, hitting 59% of her shots and ranks tenth amongst all NCAA Division II players........more

Devils Fall to Warriors (1/09/10)

A 16-4 run late in the second half by Nyack College turned a close game into a rout as the University of the Sciences women’s basketball team lost for the third time in their last four games, 69-55 Saturday afternoon at Bowman Gym in Nyack, New York.

Devils Hold Off Lightning for First CACC Win (1/7/10)

In a frenetic finish, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball held off visiting Goldey Beacom College to earn their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win of the season Tuesday night, 50-47 at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia.

Holy Family University placed four players in double figures as their women's basketball team won their 11th straight game, defeating the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia 74-48 Tuesday night at USP's Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia.

Wildcats Defeat Devils in USP's CACC Opener (12/12/09)

Erin and Marissa Chesnavich combined for 34 points but the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball team allowed Wilmington University to capitalize on nearly every miscue as the Devils dropped their conference opener 68-60 to the Wildcats Saturday afternoon at the Bobby Morgan Arena.

Shaw Propels Devils to Win over Lady Wolves (12/9/09)

Junior Caitlin Shaw recorded her first career double double as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball team held off a late charge by Cheyney University to defeat the Lady Wolves 59-53 Wednesday night at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia.

The Devils improve to 2-3 with the win. Cheyney drops to 3-3.

Chesnavich Named CACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

New Haven, Conn. (12/7/09) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s basketball player Erin Chesnavich (Bishop O’Reilly High School/Pittston, Pa.) was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her performance for the week ending December 6, 2009.

Erin averaged 22.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots/game as the Devils recorded a 1-1 week. She was the USP’s high scorer in both games played by the Devils during the week...more

Devils Drop Game to Bears (12/5/09)

Facing their fourth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference foe in as many games, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia hoped to capitalize on their success earlier in the week against East Stroudsburg University as the visited Kutztown University to take on the Bears in a non-conference regional contest. The Bears, however had other plans as they scored 52 second half points to manhandle the Devils 87-54.

The loss drops the Devils record to 1-3. The 33-point margin was the Devils largest loss margin since losing to Southern Connecticut State 76-43 in the first round of the NCAA tournament back in 2006. Kutztown improves to 4-2.......more

Devils Rally to Defeat Warriors (12/1/09)

Erin and Marissa Chesnavich combined for 38 points and 25 rebounds as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s basketball team rallied from a six point halftime deficit to defeat East Stroudsburg University 64-62 in overtime in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania Tuesday night.

The win was the Devils first of the season as they improve to 1-2. East Stroudsburg falls to 0-3. ......more

Millersville University put a full court press on the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball team in the second half to come away with a 69-59 win Monday night at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia.

West Chester Defeats Devils in Season Opener (11/17/09)

A second half rally by the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball team fizzled almost as quickly as it started as West Chester University handed the Devils a 75-62 loss in the season opener for both teams at Hollinger Field House in West Chester, Pennsylvania Tuesday night.

Junior Caitlin Shaw (Monmouth Regional HS/ Eatontown, N.J.) scored 11 of her team-high 16 points in the second half to pace the Devils. Shaw connected on seven of 11 shots from the field and added a pair of free throws.....more

Women's Basketball Team Picked Fifth in Pre-Season Poll

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women' basketball team has been picked fifth in the 2009-10 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pre-Season basketball poll released Friday afternoon. The conference's 14 head coaches conducted the voting.

USP received 45 votes in the poll behind Georgian Court University's 51. Holy Family University was picked to win the Southern Division getting five first-place votes and 87 points.  The Tigers went 26-6 overall and 18-0 in league play last season.  Wilmington University also picked up five first-place votes and finished second in the poll with 84 points. Philadelphia University picked up the remaining four first-place votes and finishing thirds in the polling with 78 points.......more
