All-District Women's Basketball Team
Philadelphia,
Pa. (February 4, 2010) -University of the Sciences
in Philadelphia women’s basketball players Melissa
Rotz and Erin Chesnavich
were named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine College Division
Academic All-District 2 women's basketball team as announced
today by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA).
Rotz
(Central Dauphin High School/Harrisburg, Pa.),
a junior, was chosen as a second team selection while Chesnavich
(Bishop O’Reilly High School/Pittston, Pa.)
, a senior was named as a third team selection in balloting
done by District 2 sports information directors. Rotz and
Chesnavich both earned third team honors in 2009.......more

Rally Falls Short (2/4/10)
The University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s basketball team nearly
erased a 15-point second half deficit but came up short as
they lost their second straight game in the state of Delaware,
this time to Goldey-Beacom College, 56-52.
The loss
drops the Devils record to 9-9 overall and 5-6 in Central
Atlantic collegiate Conference games. Goldey-Beacom improves
to 11-9 overall and 7-5 in league play.

led the Devils with 20 points while Melissa Rotz
(Central Dauphin HS/Harrisburg, Pa.) added a
season-high 10. Marissa Chesnavich (Bishop O’Reilly
HS/Pittston, Pa.) grabbed 11 rebounds to lead
all players. Alyssa Hamm (Academy Park HS/Sharon
Hill, Pa.) had five assists and Shaw had a career

Snap Devils Win Streak (2/2/10)
The best
shooting team in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
was anything but that Tuesday night as Wilmington University
snapped the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s
basketball team’s five-game win streak with a 63-53 win at
the Pratt Center in New Castle, Delaware.
The
loss drops the Devils record to 9-8 overall and 5-5 in CACC
games. Wilmington moves ½-game ahead of the Devils
in the conference standings, upping their CACC record to 6-5.

on to defeat Dominican College 45-42 Saturday afternoon at

A
key basket by Melissa Rotz and a
free throw from Sarah Hickman helped
secure a 66-64 overtime victory for the University of the
Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball team Thursday
night as they defeated University of the District of Columbia
at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia.
USP climbs above the .500 mark for the first time this season
with an 8-7 record. UDC falls to 8-13.

figures as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia
women’s basketball team built a big lead early in the game
and hung on to defeat Philadelphia University 71-64 Tuesday
night at the Gallagher Center in Philadelphia.
The
Devils improve to 7-7 overall and 4-4 in Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference games. Philadelphia University falls
to 7-9 overall and 5-3 in league play. On the sidelines, the
game featured new USP head coach Paul Stadelberger, going
up against his mentor and head coach of the Rams, Tom Shirley.
Stadelberger was an assistant under Shirley for 20 seasons
before taking the head coaching position at USP this past
summer. Shirley’s daughter Kristen is also a member of the
USP coaching staff.

The odds
were against the University of the Sciences Women’s Basketball
Team during Saturday’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
crossover game against Felician College – their best player
on the bench with foul trouble and trailing by ten points
with less than nine minutes remaining. However the Devils
overcame the odds; erased the deficit and recorded a 62-58
win over Felician College Saturday afternoon in Rutherford,
New Jersey.
The
win improves the Devils record to 6-7 overall and 3-4 in Central

Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for
her performance for the week ending December 6, 2009.
Erin
averaged 22.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots/game
as the Devils recorded a 1-1 week. She was the USP’s high

Facing
their fourth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference foe in
as many games, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia
hoped to capitalize on their success earlier in the week against
East Stroudsburg University as the visited Kutztown University
to take on the Bears in a non-conference regional contest.
The Bears, however had other plans as they scored 52 second

Basketball Team Picked Fifth in Pre-Season Poll
The
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women' basketball
team has been picked fifth in the 2009-10 Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference Pre-Season basketball poll released
Friday afternoon. The conference's 14 head coaches conducted
the voting.
USP
received 45 votes in the poll behind Georgian Court University's
51. Holy Family University was picked to win the Southern
Division getting five first-place votes and 87 points.
The Tigers went 26-6 overall and 18-0 in league play last
season. Wilmington University also picked up five first-place
votes and finished second in the poll with 84 points. Philadelphia
University picked up the remaining four first-place votes
