Weiss Named to
CACC Women’s Basketball Honor Roll
New Haven- Conn. (2/18/08) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s basketball player Allison Weiss (Springfield High School/Springfield, Pa.) was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Honor Roll for her performance for the week ending February 17, 2008.
Weiss, a 6’1” junior, led the Devils to a 3-0 week, averaging 14.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.67 blocks and 1.67 steals per game in three contests during the week.
The junior forward opened the week with her tenth double-double of the season against Chestnut Hill College, scoring 21 points and grabbing ten rebounds as the Devils defeated the Griffins 74-68 in overtime. Weiss scored 19 of her 21 points in the second half and overtime periods. Allison also had five assists, three blocks and two steals.
Two days later against Georgian Court University, Weiss recorded 14 points, making four of seven field goals and six of seven free throws as the Devils defeated the Lions. Allison also dished out a game high seven assists and had two blocked shots.
Weiss closed out the week against Nyack College, scoring nine points and pulling down six rebounds in 32 minutes of action. For the week, Allison scored a total of 44 points, the most on the Devils squad over the three game span, while shooting 52% (13-25) from the field and 85.7% from the free throw line (18-21). Weiss grabbed a total of 19 rebounds, had 17 assists, five blocks and five steals for the week.
The former Springfield High School athlete is in her third season of play for the Devils. Weiss is currently the Devils second leading scorer, averaging 11.7 points per game. Allison leads the Devils in assists (111) and free throw percentage (82.5%) and is second on the team in field goal percentage (52.0%).
Weiss is a third year physical therapy major at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
