Shaw Named CACC Women’s Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week

New Haven- Conn. (2/18/08) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s basketball player Caitlin Shaw (Monmouth Regional HS/Eatontown, N.J.) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week for her performance for the week ending February 17, 2008 along with Goldey-Beacom guard Janae Weldon.

Shaw, a 5’8” freshman, averaged 11.3 points, six rebounds and 1.33 steals per game in three contests during the week.

Opening the week against Chestnut Hill College, Shaw scored 11 points, hitting four of nine shots from the field and three free throws as the Devils defeated the Griffins 74-68 in overtime. Caitlin also pulled down eight rebounds. Shaw played just 22 minutes in the Devils win against Georgian Court two days later, scoring five points, getting four rebounds and recording two steals.

Shaw closed out the week against Nyack College, scoring 18 points and pulling down six rebounds in 28 minutes of action. For the week, Caitlin scored a total of 34 points, second most on the Devils squad while shooting 50% (12-24) from the field and 90% from the free throw line (9-10).

The former Monmouth Regional High School athlete is in her first season of play for the Devils. Shaw is currently the Devils third leading scorer, averaging 10.7 points per game. Caitlin is also third on the Devils squad in field goal percentage (46.8%) and free throw percentage (80%) and leads the team in steals with 38.

Shaw is a physical therapy major at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
