Shelby Rance Named Philadelphia Area
All-Academic Women’s Basketball Performer Of The Year

Philadelphia, Pa. – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia senior Shelby Rance has been named the 2006-07 Philadelphia Area All-Academic Women’s Basketball Performer of the Year as released today by the Philadelphia Inquirer. Rance is one of seven student-athletes selected to the Area All-Academic Women’s Basketball Team. The team is selected by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA).

Rance (Central Columbia Area High School/Bloomsburg, Pa.), the only repeat selection from the inaugural 2005-06 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Basketball Team, earned First Team All-Conference honors for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference this year, becoming a three-time First Team All-Conference selection. The senior guard has led the Devils to a 19-10 record and a third place finish in the CACC. Rance helped lead USP to two CACC Tournament Championships in 2004 and 2006, earning Tournament Most Valuable Player honors both times. She is the Devils’ all-time leading scorer with 1,939 career points and is ranked in the USP’s top 11 all-time in seven offensive categories while starting all 120 games of her career.

Carrying a 3.54 grade point average, the Bloomsburg, PA native has made Dean’s List in all seven semesters during her college career and was inducted the Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society. Shelby has been selected three-times to the CACC’s Fall Academic Team as a member of USP’s cross country team and recently became a three-time selection to the CACC Winter All-Academic Team becoming the CACC’s first six-time All-Academic Team recipient.

Rance is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Basketball team by Meg Abele and Alisha Ferguson from Philadelphia University; Jackie Adamshick from Villanova University; Karen Berk from Swarthmore College; Jen Oyler from St. Joseph’s University and Kate Quintus from Chestnut Hill College.

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia has had 13 student-athletes named to the Philadelphia Area All-Academic Teams since the programs inception in 2005-06. Three athletes are repeat selections from last year including Rance and four have earned Performer of the Year honors.
