Weiss Named to CACC Women’s Basketball Honor Roll
New Haven, Conn. (3/3/09) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s Basketball player Allison Weiss (Springfield HS/Springfield, Pa.) was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll for her performance for the week ending March 1, 2009.
In earning CACC honor roll accolades for the second time this season, Weiss, a 6'1" senior, led the Devils in scoring, rebounding and assists in USP's lone game last week, a 65-60 win over conference foe Wilmington University. The win boosted the Devils into the #3 seed for the upcoming CACC playoffs.
Weiss posted her third double-double of the season with a team-high 18 points and 11 rebounds. Allison connected on seven of 13 shots from the field and was perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the contest. In addition, the senior forward recorded a team-high six assists, had one blocked shot and a steal in 29 minutes of play.
A third team All-CACC selection last year, Weiss currently leads the conference in free throw percentage, hitting 90.4% of her shots which places her 10th nationally amongst all NCAA division II players.
The former Springfield High School athlete is in her fourth and final season of play for the Devils. Earlier this season, Weiss became the 12th women's basketball player in school history to score 1,000 career points. Allison is now11th on the Devils all-time list with 1,111. She also is fourth on USP's career rebounding list with 858; ninth on the career assist list with (275); seventh on the blocked shot list with 69; fifth with 328 free throws made and seventh in career games played with 114.
Weiss is a physical therapy major at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
