Chesnavich Named CACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

New Haven, Conn. (1/19/09) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s Basketball player Erin Chesnavich (Bishop O’Reilly High School/Pittston, Pa.) was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her performance for the week ending January 11, 2009.

This week’s Player of the Week honors marks the fifth time this season that Chesnavich, a 6'1" junior forward, has been honored by the CACC. Erin averaged 16.0 points per game and 13.0 rebounds/game in leading the Devils to a perfect 2-0 week. She was the Devils top rebounder and second high scorer in each of USP's games. Chesnavich is the only CACC women's basketball players to be honored by the conference on five separate occasions this season.

Chesnavich opened the week on Tuesday by recording 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Devils defeated Georgian Court University 50-48. It was her layup with 6.1 seconds left in the game that proved to be the game winner.

Four days later against Nyack College, the junior forward recorded her fourth consecutive double-double and seventh of the season, putting in 16 points and grabbing a career high 15 rebounds as the Devils won their third straight game, 70-58. Chesnavich also dished out three assists and had three blocked shots.

For the week, Chesnavich shot 44.1% (15-34) from the field and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Erin pulled down a total of 26 rebounds and also recorded five assists and four blocked shots.

A first team All-CACC selection last year, Chesnavich is amongst the conference leaders in seven different categories ranking second in the league in field goal percentage (55.7%) and free throw percentage (89.5%); fourth in scoring (16.9 points per game), sixth in blocked shots (1.46/game)and 6th in rebounding (9.0 per game). Erin is also fourth in the league averaging 5.54 defensive rebounds per game and eighth in offensive rebounds averaging 3.46 per game. She is the only CACC women's basketball player ranked in the top 10 in seven different offensive categories.

The former Bishop O’Reilly High School athlete is in her third season of play for the Devils. Chesnavich currently leads the Devils in scoring average, points scored (220), field goal percentage, total rebounds (117) and blocked shots (19). She is second on the team in free throw percentage.

Chesnavich is a biology major at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
