Chesnavich and Weiss Repeat as All-CACC Women’s Basketball Team is Announced
New Haven, Conn. (3/3/4/09) - University of the
Sciences in Philadelphia forwards Erin Chesnavich
and Allison Weiss were named to the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball All-Conference Team in balloting
released today. Chesnavich, a junior, was chosen
as a First Team selection while Weiss, a senior
was a Third Team selection. The voting was done by the league’s 13 head coaches.
This year’s selection marks the second consecutive selection for both Chesnavich
and Weiss. Who earned first and third team respectively in 2007-2008.
Chesnavich (Bishop O’Reilly High School/Pittston, Pa.)
is currently ranked sixth in the CACC in scoring (16.2 points per game). Erin
also leads the league in field goal percentage (56.2%) and is the only CACC
player ranked in the top eight in a total of seven different categories, ranking
third in rebounding (9.5/gm.), seventh in blocked shots (1.19/gm.), eighth
in free throw percentage (81.3%); fourth in defensive rebounds (6.37/gm.)
and eighth in offensive rebounds (3.11/gm.). The junior forward earned CACC
and ECAC Player of the Week honors in January and was named to the CACC honor
roll six other times during the season. Chesnavich
also earned honorable mention for the WBCA Player of the Month honors in January.
Weiss (Springfield HS/Springfield, Pa.) leads
the league in free throw percentage (90.4%) and is ranked 12th in the league
in rebounding (7.3/gm.). Allison also leads USP
in assists averaging 2.74 per game and ranks 13th in the CACC.
Chesnavich, a former Bishop O’Reilly High School
athlete is in her third season of play for the Devils. A three-year starter,
Erin has played in 77 games for the Devils, starting
76. Against Chestnut Hill College earlier this season, Chesnavich
became the 13th women’s player in school history to record 1,000 career points.
She is now ranked 9th on the Devils all-time scoring list with 1,130 points.
Erin also ranks, 7th on USP’s all-time rebound
list with 656, sixth in field goals made (475) and fourth on the Devils all-time
blocked shot list with 105.
Weiss, a former Springfield high School athlete
is in her fourth and final season of play for the Devils. A four-year starter,
Allison has played and started in all 114 of USP’s
games over the past four seasons. Allison became
the 12th USP women’s basketball player to score 1000 career points this season,
reaching the mark in a game against Wilmington University in January. Now
with 1,111 career points, she ranks 11th on the Devils all-time scoring list.
Weiss is also fourth on the Devils all-time rebound
list with 858, ninth on the all-time assist list with 275 and seventh on the
all-time blocked shots list with 69.
Chesnavich is a double major (biology and physician
assistant) at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia while Weiss
is majoring in physical therapy.
