Chesnavich Named CACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

New Haven- Conn. (01/07/08) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s basketball player Erin Chesnavich (Bishop O’Reilly High School/Pittston, Pa.) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her performance for the week ending January 6, 2008.

In the Devils only game last week, Chesnavich, a 6’2” sophomore, scored 18 points as USP defeated Felician College 73-38 for their second conference win of the season.

Chesnavich connected on eight of nine shots from the field (88.9%) while shooting a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Erin also pulled down four rebounds, had two blocked shots and one assist in an efficient 21 minutes of playing time. Her 88.9% shooting effort is the best by a CACC women’s basketball player this season, bettering her own mark of 86.7% (13-15 FG) set back on December 8, 2007 against Post University.

The former Bishop O’Reilly High School athlete is in her second season of play for the Devils. Erin currently leads the Devils in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game ; ranking fifth in the CACC. She is also USP’s leading free throw shooter, connecting on 86.7% of her shots (26-30) from the charity stripe and leading shot blocker with 12. Chesnavich currently ranks second in the CACC in field goal percentage (61.2%); second in free throw percentage; fourth in blocked shots (1.33/gm.) and 15th in rebounding (6.4/gm.).

Chesnavich is majoring in biology at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
