Chesnavich Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic
All-Area Women’s Basketball Team

Philadelphia, Pa. - (April 20, 2008) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia sophomore Erin Chesnavich has been named to the 2007-08 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Basketball Team. Chesnavich is one of six student-athletes selected to the Area All-Academic Women’s Basketball Team. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions in the Philadelphia-metropolitan area.

Chesnavich (Bishop O’Reilly High School/Pittston, Pa.) carries a 3.174 grade point average while majoring in biology. The sophomore forward earned First Team All-Conference honors for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) this year, leading the Devils to a 13-15 record. Chesnavich led USP in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per game and ranked sixth in the CACC in that department. Erin was also the Devils and the CACC’s leading shooter from the field, connecting on 55.8% of her field goal attempts this season. This mark ranked her 17th best nationally amongst all NCAA Division II players.

The Pittston, Pa. native was a two-time CACC Player of the Week in 2007-08 and finished the year ranked amongst the top ten in the CACC in six offensive categories. Chesnavich ranked 59th nationally in rebounding (8.9/gm.) and 65th nationally in blocked shots (1.46/gm.). Erin recorded a career-high 29 points in the Devils game at Post University on December 8, 2007 and is currently 19th on the Devils all-time scoring list with 698 career points.

Chesnavich is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Basketball team by Gabriela Marginean of Drexel University (Performer of the Year); Kristy Cramp of Gwynedd Mercy College, Sarah Hennessey of Ursinus College, Jessica Romano of Philadelphia University and Stacie Witman of Villanova University.

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia has had 18 student-athletes named to the Philadelphia Area All-Academic Teams since the programs inception in 2005-06. Nine athletes are repeat selections with five earning Performer of the Year honors in their respective sports. USP also has one athlete who has earned Performer of the Year honors twice, Michelle Bauer (women’s at-large- rifle, 2006 and 2008) and two who have been named to the team three consecutive years (Bauer and Joy Aifuwa (women’s cross country)).
