Head Coach
|
In 2006 in his fifth season as the head coach of the USP women’s volleyball team, Michael Sinesi guided the Devils to a record of 8 wins and 18 losses, and a ninth place finish in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). He enters his sixth season as the Devils’ winningest volleyball coach with a 66-73 career record, and with the start of his sixth season, Sinesi will become the longest tenured volleyball coach in school history, surpassing Diana LaForce who coached for five seasons from 1974 through 1978. One year earlier, Sinesi's volleyball team established a new school record for wins in a season as the Devils won 19 matches while losing 13. Sinesi's team went on to advance to the championship game of the CACC tournament, losing to Goldey Beacom College, 3-0. Sinesi was awarded the 2005 CACC Volleyball Coach of the Year award, leading the Devils to a sweep of the CACC major post-season awards as senior Emily Roth captured CACC Player of the Year honors and freshman Claire Tauschek captured the CACC Newcomer of the Year award. The USP volleyball team recorded their first winning season since 1996 with a 17-16 record in 2004 and a berth in the CACC playoffs. The Devils lost in the quarterfinals to New Jersey Institute of Technology. Entering just his second season as head coach in 2003, the Devils earned their first ever CACC Playoff berth, coming on strong at the end of the season to finish the year with a 13-14 record. In the CACC quarterfinals, USP earned their first ever win against Goldey Beacom College defeating the Lightning 3-1 to advance to the semi-finals where the Devils lost to eventual CACC Champion Bloomfield College. USP finished 9-12 in Sinesi's first year as head coach. Prior to his arrival at USP, he served as an assistant coach at Rutgers University (Camden Campus) in 2001 and as a volunteer assistant coach for the boys volleyball team at Collingswood High School from 1999-2002. Sinesi also coached USVA juniors, starting out at South Jersey Volleyball Club in 2003 and moving on to the BuxMont Volleyball Club for 2004-06. In the process his teams have garnered a total of eight medals ( two gold's, six silvers) in three years. The most significant was a runner-up finish in the Bronze Bracket (16CO) at the 2004 East Coast Championships held at Penn State University. Ironically, a member of the team that won the gold medal is current USP player Andrea Cardine. He is a member of both the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association and the American Volleyball Coaches Association, where he serves as the CACC representative to the Division II Head Coaches Committee, a CSTV/AVCA Division II poll voter and a member of the AVCA Northeast All-Region selection committee. Sinesi was also named CACC volleyball sports chair in 2006. In addition to his volleyball duties, Sinesi is part of USP's game-day event management staff and has served as assistant recreation supervisor. He has been an adjunct instructor at Delaware County Community College for the past four years. He has a masters degree from George Washington University and a bachelors degree from Bridgewater College. |
