Sets Record but Devils Fall in Four (9/15/06)
Sophomore setter Ladonna
Landmesser became the all-time assist leader at the University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia last night, but the Devils dropped their
conference opener to area rival Wilmington College, 3-1 at the Bobby Morgan
Arena in Philadelphia.
Landmesser
(Archbishop Prendergast HS/Drexel Hill, PA)
entered the game with 1,426 career assists, nine behind Nicole
Leslie's 1,435. Ladonna tied the record midway through the
first game of the match and broke it when she set a perfect pass to Lindsey
Wenderoth (Jr., Owings Mills HS/Owings Mills, MD)
late in the game. USP went on to win that game 30-28.
However the Devils dropped the
next three 27-30, 18-30 and 33-35 to fall to 1-6 on the season and 0-1
in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. Wilmington improves to
1-9 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Wenderoth
and Andrea Cardine (Fr., Reading Central Catholic/Temple,
PA) recorded double-doubles for the Devils. Cardine
led the Devils in kills with 15 while recording 14 digs and Wenderoth
had 13 kills and 23 digs. lja
Marjanovic (Jr., Chaminade-Madonna Prep/North Miami Beach, FL)
added 14 kills to help pace the Devils offense. USP finished with 60 kills
on the night, 15 more than their opponent, but recorded 36 attack errors.
Landmesser finished the match with 52 assists
and now has 1,478 for her career.
The Devils travel to Nyack New
York to take on the Warriors of Nyack College in a tri-match with Adelphi
University,slated for this Saturday, September 16, 2006.
