Tauschek Named CACC Volleyball Player of the Week
New Haven, Conn. (October 13, 2008) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia senior volleyball player Claire Tauschek (Middleton High School/Verona, Wis.) was named the CACC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending October 12, 2008.
Tauschek averaged six digs per set and 0.55 aces per set in leading the Devils to a 3-0 week, extending their winning streak to a school record-seven games. She becomes the first libero ever to be honored by the CACC as Player of the Week.
The week saw Tauschek reach a pair of milestones. In Thursday match against Chestnut Hill College, Claire became the first USP and CACC volleyball player to record 2,000 career digs. In reaching the mark, Tauschek becomes the 37th NCAA Division II player to do so. Tauschek recorded her 2,000 dig on the final point of the match. Claire also recorded two aces in the game, tying the school’s record for career service aces with 196.
Two days later, the USP career service ace mark was Tauschek’s alone as she recorded two aces against Nyack College, giving her 198 for her career. Claire becomes one of just 10 NCAA Division II players to record 2,000+ career digs and 185+ career aces.
For the week, Tauschek recorded 66 digs and six service aces in USP’s three matches.
The former Middleton High School player is in her fourth and final season of play for the Devils. As the team’s libero the past four seasons, Claire holds the school record for career digs (2,015) and aces (198) along with the single season mark in both. Tauschek is a physical therapy major, pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of the Sciences.
