Tauschek Earns All-CACC Volleyball Honors
New Haven, Conn (November 11, 2008) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia libero Claire Tauschek (Middleton High School/Verona, Wis.) was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Conference Volleyball Team today as a First Team Selection in voting done by the league’s 13 head volleyball coaches.
Tauschek, a senior earns her fourth selection to the All-CACC volleyball team, her third as a First Team honoree. Claire was a first team All-CACC selection in 2005 and 2006 and a second team selection last season. Tauschek becomes just the second volleyball player in school history to earn All-CACC honors in all four years of play, joining Emily Roth (2002-05; 1st team four times). Breht Mieckowski (1998-2001) also earned all- conference honors four times (once with the NAC, three with the CACC).
Tauschek led the Devils (11-18) in digs (412) and digs/set (4.38) during the 2008 season. Her per set average is tops amongst the CACC leaders and is currently ranked 67th nationally. Earlier in the season, Claire became the first USP volleyball player to record 2,000 career digs. Coupled with over 200 career aces, Tauschek is one of just seven NCAA Division II players in history to reach both career marks, and just the third libero to do so.
The former Middleton High School athlete became USP’s all-time digs leader in late September, recording her 1,881st against Southern New Hampshire University to surpass Roth’s four-year total of 1,880. Four matches later, she reached the 2,000 mark in a match against Chestnut Hill. As the Devils’ all-time leader in digs with 2,132, Tauschek ranks 28th on the NCAA Division II all-time list. Her digs/set average of 5.21 in the best is school history as is her 203 career aces.
Tauschek, a physical therapy major in her first professional year in the institution's Doctor of Physical Therapy program, has completed her fourth and final season of play for the Devils.
