Morgan and Phillips Named to CACC All-Conference Team

New Haven, Conn. – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia sophomore Rachel Morgan and freshman Dayna Phillips were named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Conference Women’s Softball Team as Second Team selections as announced today by the conference office. The All-CACC team selections are done by the league’s 13 coaches.

The USP softball team finished the regular season with a 15-21 record and qualified for the post-season for the first time since the 2001 campaign.

The sophomore Morgan (Clackamas HS/Clackamas, Ore.) leads the Devils in virtually every pitching category. A right handed-hurler, Morgan has won 11 games during the regular season becoming just the third USP pitcher to win ten or more games and the first since 1995. Morgan's 123 strikeouts are a single season school record. Rachel sports a 1.36 earned run average and opponents are batting just 216 against her.

Morgan also ranks amongst the CACC leaders in several pitching categories. Rachel currently ranks third in the league in earned run average (1.36), third in strikouts/7 ins. (6.71), third in opponent’s batting average (.216), sixth in strikeouts (123), and seventh in wins (11), appearances (25) and shutouts (3). Amongst all NCAA Division II players, Morgan is 42nd in earned run average and 59th in strikeouts per seven innings.

Phillips (Cumberland Regional HS/Rosenhayn, N.J.), a freshman centerfielder, is currently the Devils leading hitter, batting .357 while hitting in the leadoff spot. Her 45 hits this season are the second highest total in school history. Dayna also leads the team in runs scored (22) and stolen bases (12). She is second on the team with six sacrifice hits and five doubles while starting in all 36 games. In the field, Phillips has a .973 fielding percentage with just two errors in 74 total chances.

Morgan is in her second season of play for USP while Phillips is in her rookie campaign. Rachel is a pharmaceutical marketing/management major at the school. Dayna is majoring in Biology with an emphasis on Pre-Med.
