Trimble and Flint Named to 2007 CoSIDA Academic All District Softball Team
PHILADELPHIA, PA – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s softball players Megan Trimble and Laura Flint was named today to the 2007 CoSIDA College Division Academic All-District II Softball Team.
Trimble (Coatesville High School/Coatesville, Pa.) and Flint (Interlake High School/ Duvall, Wash.), both seniors, were named as third team selections in balloting done by District II sports information directors.
The District II College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia and District of Columbia. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a minimum 3.20 grade point average and a starter or significant reserve on her team.
Trimble, a pharmacy major, recently completed her second professional year in the university’s Doctor of Pharmacy program. Megan has a 3.30 grade point average.
Playing and starting in 33 of the Devils’ 37 games in 2007, the senior outfielder recorded 45 hits in 103 at-bats to lead the team with a .437 batting average. Trimble was also second on the team in stolen bases with four and third on the team in doubles with six. Her .437 batting average places her second amongst the league’s softball players and 33rd nationally amongst all Division II players. Megan was recently named to the Daktronics All-Northeast Region Second Team for the second time in her career and was the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year in 2004, a first team All-CACC selection in 2007 and a second team All-CACC selection in 2005. Trimble is the Devils’ all-time leader in home runs (21), total bases (217) and runs batted in (88). She is fourth on the Devils all-time hit list with 124 career hits and ranks in USP’s top 10 all-time in six other offensive categories.
The former Coatesville High School athlete earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar Athlete honors in 2004 and 2005 and was awarded the Tug McGraw Scholarship in 2006. This scholarship is awarded to students who exemplify former major league reliever Tug McGraw’s “Ya Gotta Believe” philosophy and was awarded through a competitive application process which judged applicants on their academic accomplishments, community involvement and leadership ability. Trimble was named to the Dean’s List four times and was inducted into the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society in 2006.
Flint sports a 3.75 grade point average while majoring in biology and minoring in biochemistry and forensic science. Laura recently completed her fourth an final season of play for the Devils.
The senior pitcher led the Devils with a 7-8 record in 17 appearances in 2007. Flint posted a 4.56 earned run average and led the Devils in strikeouts with 70. She also led the team in starts (14), complete games (11) and innings pitched (96.2). Flint finished her career with 16 wins and a 3.96 earned run average, is Devils all-time strikeout leader with 256 and is ranked in USP’s top ten all-time in nearly every pitching category.
The former Interlake High School athlete has been named to the Dean’s List in each of her seven previous semesters at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar Athlete honors in 2004 and 2005. She was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society as a freshman.
