Brown Named to CACC Softball Honor Roll
New Haven, Conn. (3/16/09) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s softball shortstop Brittany Brown (Cherokee High School/Marlton, N.J.) has been named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball honor roll for the week ending March 15, 2009.
Brown, a junior, batted .500 in the Devils three doubleheaders last week. After going hitless in USP’s opening game against Drexel, Brown recorded hits in each of the remaining five games as the Devils compiled a 1-5 record on the week.
Opening the week against Division I area rival Drexel University, Brown went 3-for-4 in the second game driving in a pair of runs as the Devils lost 4-3.
On Thursday, the junior shortstop had two hits in each of USP’s games against Widener University as the Devils forged a split in the two contests. Brown had a double and an RBI in the first game and went 2-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice fly while driving in three of the Devils five runs in a 5-4 come-from-behind win.
Brown concluded her stellar week with hits in both games against Millersville University on Saturday, extending her hitting streak to five games as the Devils were swept by the Marauders 4-1 and 9-2.
For the week, Brown had nine hits in 18 at-bats with a doubles two walks a sacrifice fly and seven RBI. Five of Brown’s nine hits came with runners in scoring position for a .714 batting average (5-7). Brittany also recorded a .400 average when batting with two-out this week, and was successful in advancing a runner on base 60% of the time (10 opportunities).
The former Cherokee High School star is in her third season as a member of the USP women’s softball team. Brown is a pharmacy major pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the institution.
