Three Shooters Earn CRCA All-Academic
All-American Rifle Team Honors


Two members of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia’s mixed rifle team and one member of the USP women’s rifle team were named to the 2007 College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Academic All-American Rifle Team which was announced at the NCAA Championships last week in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Earning CRCA honors this season were Michelle Bauer (Jr., Triton HS/Blackwood, N.J.), Alex Novin (So., Washington Township HS/Sewell, NJ) and Courtney Cavalieri (Fr., Highland HS/ Highland, N.Y.). This marks the third consecutive year that Bauer has earned All-Academic All-American honors. Novin joins Bauer as a repeat selection from last year while Cavalieri is making her debut on the CRCA All-Academic All-American rifle team.

To qualify for the CRCA All-Academic All-American Rifle Team, a shooter must have at least a 3.25 overall grade point average record a 3.25 g.p.a. in the fall semester and record a score of at least 525 out of 600 in either smallbore or air rifle during the current season.

Bauer, a pharmacy major pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at USP currently has a 3.69 overall grade point average. The junior shooter shot a season highs in both smallbore and air rifle during the NRA Collegiate Sectionals held at USP on February 4, 2007 with scores of 579 in smallbore and 583 in air rifle. In USP’s 13 events this season, Bauer had averages of 568.15 in smallbore and 573.30 in air rifle. Bauer recently completed her third year of competition for the Devils earning All-MAC honors for the third consecutive year.

Novin is also a pharmacy major pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at USP. He recorded his season high smallbore score of 528 against John Jay College on October 28, 2006 and his season high air rifle score of 530 at the Sectionals on February 4, 2007. Alex currently has a 3.59 overall grade point average. Novin, a third year student at USP, recently completed his second season of competition for the Devils. Alex finished the season with a smallbore average of 504.46 and an air rifle average of 503.38.

Cavalieri joins Bauer and Novin on the CRCA All-Academic All-American Rifle Team. The second year student is also a pharmacy major and sports a 3.56 overall grade point average. Courtney shot a career-high 548 in air rifle against Indiana University of Pennsylvania on December 2, 2006 to qualify for the team. Cavalieri finished the season with an air rifle average of 508.3 and a smallbore average of 486.36 in her first season of competition for the Devils.

In addition, the USP women’s rifle team recorded a team grade point average of 3.423, which places them eighth amongst the 37 institutions that sponsor rifle and had a team g.p.a. of 3.25 or better.

USP’s three shooters were amongst a total of 60 rifle student-athletes selected to the team from amongst the 43 Division I, II and III schools that offer rifle as a varsity sport. The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia has had at least one shooter named to the CRCA All-Academic All-American Rifle Team for the past 16 seasons.
