Five Shooters Earn CRCA
All-Academic All-American Rifle Team Honors

Earns Award for the Fourth Straight Year
Three members of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia’s mixed rifle team and two members of the USP women’s rifle team were named to the 2008 College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Academic All-American Rifle Team which was announced at the NCAA Championships on Saturday in West Point, New York.
Earning CRCA honors this season were senior Michelle Bauer (Triton HS/Blackwood, N.J.), junior Alex Novin (Washington Township HS/Sewell, NJ), sophomores Courtney Cavalieri (Highland HS/ Highland, N.Y.) and Elisha Shumard (Toms River North HS/Toms River, N.J.) and freshman Deborah Booth (Watchung Hills Regional High School/Millington, N.J.).
Bauer becomes the first USP shooter to earn CRCA All- Academic-All American honors in all four years of competition. Novin and Cavalieri join Bauer as repeat selections from last year, with Novin receiving honors for the third straight season and Cavalieri a second straight year. Shumard and Booth are both first time honorees.
To qualify for the CRCA All-Academic All-American Rifle Team, a shooter must have at least a 3.25 overall grade point average record or a 3.25 g.p.a. in the fall semester and record a score of at least 525 out of 600 in either smallbore or air rifle during the current season. The athlete’s coach must be a member of the CRCA.
Bauer, a pharmacy major pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at USP currently has a 3.601 overall grade point average. The senior shooter shot a season highs in both smallbore and air rifle during USP’s NCAA qualifier match held at USP on February 16, 2007 with scores of 580 in smallbore and 586 in air rifle. These two scores were enough to qualify to compete in the recent NCAA National Championships at the United State Military Academy in West Point, New York. In USP’s 13 events this season, Bauer had averages of 566.25 in smallbore and 575.90 in air rifle. Michelle recently completed her fourth and final year of competition for the Devils earning All-MAC honors for the fourth consecutive year.
Novin is a double major, pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree as well as a degree in Pharmacology/ Toxicology at USP. Alex currently has a 3.594 overall grade point average. Novin, a fourth year student at USP, recently completed his third season of competition for the Devils. Alex finished the season with a smallbore average of 494.00 and an air rifle average of 501.70 while competing in ten events for the Devils
Cavalieri, a third year student, is also a pharmacy major and sports a 3.332 overall grade point average. Courtney shot a career-high 548 in smallbore at the NRA Collegiate Sectionals on February 10, 2008 and a career high air rifle score of 575 on October 27, 2007 against Virginia Military Institute to qualify for the team. Cavalieri finished the season with an air rifle average of 544.60 and a smallbore average of 519.08 in her second season of competition for the Devils.
Shumard and Booth, both
members of the USP women’s team, are first time honorees this year. Shumard,
a third year physical therapy major, has a 3.387 g.p.a. Elisha
finished the season with a smallbore average of 475.18 and an air rifle average
of 512.73, shooting a career high 538 at the NRA Sectionals at USP on February
3, 2008. Shumard just completed her second season
of competition for USP. Booth, a first year pharmacy
major, has a 3.753 g.p.a. Deborah finished her first
season as a member of the Devils squad with a smallbore average of 476.94 and
an air rifle average of 509.55, recording an air rifle career high of 536 on
November 3, 2007 against the United States Air Force Academy.
