Bauer, Novin Named to Philadelphia Area All-Academic Teams

Two members of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia's mixed rifle team, Michelle Bauer and Alex Novin were named to the Philadelphia Area All-Academic Winter At-Large Teams as released today by the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Bauer (Jr., Triton HS/Blackwood, N.J.) was one of 13 student-athletes named to the Women's At-Large Team and is a repeat selection from last year's inaugural team. The junior shooter was the 2005-06 Women's At-Large Performer of the Year. Novin (So., Washington Township HS/Sewell, NJ) was one of ten student-athletes named to the Men's At-Large Team and is a first time selection. The Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA) selects the teams.

Bauer, a pharmacy major pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at USP currently has a 3.69 overall grade point average. Michelle was recently named to the CRCA All-Academic All-American Rifle Team for the third consecutive season. The junior shooter shot a season highs in both smallbore and air rifle during the NRA Collegiate Sectionals held at USP on February 4, 2007 with scores of 579 in smallbore and 583 in air rifle. In USP's 13 events this season, Bauer had averages of 568.15 in smallbore and 573.30 in air rifle. Bauer recently completed her third year of competition for the Devils earning All-MAC honors for the third consecutive year.

Novin is also a pharmacy major pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at USP and currently has a 3.59 overall grade point average. The sophomore shooter was recently named to the CRCA All-Academic All-American Rifle Team for the second consecutive season. He recorded his season high smallbore score of 528 against John Jay College on October 28, 2006 and his season high air rifle score of 530 at the Sectionals on February 4, 2007. Novin, a third year student at USP, recently completed his second season of competition for the Devils. Alex finished the season with a smallbore average of 504.46 and an air rifle average of 503.38.

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia has had 13 student-athletes named to the Philadelphia Area All-Academic Teams since the programs inception in 2005-06. Three athletes are repeat selections from last year including Bauer and four have earned Performer of the Year honors, including Bauer in 2005-06.
