FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

USP Athletic Department Announces their Rifle Schedule for 2009-2010

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia athletic department has released the schedules for the 2009-2010 mixed and women’s rifle teams.

Both teams kick of their 2009-2010 season competing at the Second Annual Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) Tournament on October 3rd and 4th at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. The Devils will face Massachusetts Maritime and SUNY Maritime on the opening day before going up against the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and host Navy on day two.

USP’s home opener will be on Saturday, September 10, 2009 when the Devils host Princeton University and 2008 Olympian Sandra Fong. Fong’s sister Abigail also competes for the Tigers and is on the Olympic Developmental Team.

The Devils have road matches at Virginia Military Institute and University of Akron along with three home contests to complete the fall portion of their schedule.

In January both rifle teams start in the same place they started in the fall- at the Naval Academy. The women’s team will shoot against the Midshipman on Friday, January 22, 2010 with the mixed team to compete the next day. USP then returns home for the next two weeks as they again host the NRA Philadelphia Area Sectionals. Highlighting the first week of sectional will be a visit from Army. In week two, during the first weekend in February, Penn State University, Princeton, and John Jay College will be the Devils toughest competition.

After the sectionals, the Devils will travel to West Point, New York to shoot their NCAA qualifier match at Army. The season will culminate with the MAC Championships during the first weekend in March. This year’s event will be hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. The mixed team will be seeking their 15th MAC title under head coach Paul Klimitas, while the women will seek their fifth championship. Combined, the rifle programs have won a total of 18 MAC Championships in the 33 years under the guidance and watchful eye of coach Klimitas.
