Booth Named to 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Team
Philadelphia, Pa. (May 21, 2009) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s rifle shooter Deborah Booth was named today to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District Two Women’s At-Large Team.
Booth (Watchung Hills Regional High School/Millington, N.J.), a sophomore, was named as a third team selection in balloting done by District Two sports information directors. She joins Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) junior Emily Houston as the only two shooters from the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) to earn Academic All-District honors. Houston was a second team selection in district one.
The District Two College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia and District of Columbia. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a minimum 3.30 grade point average and a starter or significant reserve on her team.
A second year pharmacy major, Booth has an overall grade point average of 3.706. Deborah finished her second season as a member of the Devils squad leading the women's team with a smallbore average of 513.09 and an air rifle average of 541.27, recording an air rifle career high of 566 on October 11, 2008 against the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a season-high smallbore score of 537 at the NCAA Qualifier at West Point on February 14.
“Deborah had a fine season, both in rifle and in the classroom,” adds USP head coach Paul Klimitas. “Obviously she approaches both with equal resolve and work ethic. It has been a lot of fun watching her improve each match.”
The Millington, N.J. native has been selected to the CRCA All-Academic Team in each of the past two seasons and was most recently named to the inaugural MAC All-Academic Team for 2009. Booth is one of three shooters on the USP rifle teams that earned MAC Shooter the month, earning the first ever Air Rifle Award in November 2008. As a freshman, she helped lead the women’s team to the MAC Marksman Division Air Rifle Championship.
Booth has earned Dean’s List honors in each of her first three semesters at USP and will later be named to the Dean’s List for the fourth time for the spring 2009 semester, recording a 3.889 g.p.a. for the semester. Deborah is also a certified EMT who volunteers her time in both Media, Pennsylvania and in her hometown.
