FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Booth Named MAC Air Rifle Shooter of the Month
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia sophomore Deborah Booth (Watchung Hills Regional High School/ Millington, N.J.) has been named the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) Air Rifle Shooter of the month for the month of October 2008.
Booth is the MAC's first ever recipient of the MAC Air Rifle Shooter of the Month award. The award was created earlier this year and honors two shooters (one smallbore, one air)each month. The award is not necessarily based on the highest scores fired that month but to award outstanding performances (personal bests, recording scores well above season averages, gritty performances despite extraneous duress, etc), leadership, work ethic, classroom work and community service
The Millington, New Jersey native is currently a second year Doctorate of Pharmacy major and has been on Dean’s List since she arrived at USP with a 3.65 GPA. Even though she is a second year student she has actually advanced well into her third year of course work. Her three match air rifle scores during October were 542 on October 4 and 532 on October 5 at the MAC Invitational at Navy and a career high 566 the next weekend at home on October 11, 2008 against Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Booth also was named to the College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Academic Team as a freshman in March of 2008.
Booth is a certified EMT and volunteers her time in the Philadelphia area in Media, PA and at home in North Jersey. USP head coach Paul Klimitas comments of Booth “14 months ago she never held an air rifle in her hands and she has progressed very well with the time available to her. She has recently purchased her own air rifle which certainly speaks to her long time commitment to the team and sport. No one practices more than Deborah and much like many very good shooters – she is never satisfied with her match or practice scores. "
The MAC is the largest rifle conference in the nation and currently consists of 15 members in eight states from Virginia to Massachusetts and west to Ohio. The MAC strives, through the practice of riflery, to promote the highest ethical standards of athletic competition and individual conduct, foster the development of mutual understanding and cooperation among its member institutions, and work to develop complete mutual understanding of the sport among all member institutions.
