Named Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area
Women's At-Large Performer of the Year
PHILADELPHIA – University of Sciences sophomore Michelle Bauer (Triton HS/Blackwood, NJ) has been named the 2005-06 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s At-Large Performer of the Year. Bauer is one of 10 student-athletes selected to the first-ever Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s At-Large Team. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Bauer, a pharmacy major on a doctorate tract, is currently ranked third in the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) in small-bore and eighth is air rifle. Bauer has flourished this season, setting career-best scores of 587 (school record) out 600 possible points in smallbore and 583 out of 600 in the air rifle. The sophomore has been the high shooter in every match of her career except one; making first team All-MAC in smallbore and second team all-MAC in air rifle in 2006 to go along with her second team All-MAC honors both smallbore and air rifle in 2005. Bauer was recently named to the CRCA All-Academic All American Rifle Team.
Carrying a 3.80 grade point average, the Blackwood, NJ native has made Dean’s List all three semesters of her college career and was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society. During her secondary education, Bauer was a seven-time Junior Olympics participant and trained at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado.
Bauer is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s At-Large team by Stephanie Burkhardt and Jennifer Schwenk of West Chester, Laura Duros, Emily Petkun and Eve Overton of Penn, Jessica Furman of Ursinus, Julieanne Herskowitz and Rachel Lieberman of Haverford, and Jessica Larson of Swarthmore.
