Shooters Named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area
Women’s At-Large Team
Philadelphia
(May 19, 2010) –
University of Sciences in Philadelphia mixed rifle team
member Courtney Cavalieri and
women’s rifle team members Nicole Churchill
and Carrie Kwok
have been named to the 2009-10 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic
All-Area Women’s At-Large Team. The three shooters are amongst
the 10 student-athletes selected to the team by sports information
directors of the 28 area institutions in the Philadelphia
metropolitan area.
Cavalieri
(Highland High School/Highland, N.Y.), a fifth
year student in the university's Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD.)
program, earned her second consecutive Philadelphia Area
All-Academic team honors this year and caps off a second
straight year of earning three major academic honors. In
2010 Courtney was named to the College Rifle Coaches Association
(CRCA) for the fourth straight year and the Mid-Atlantic
Rifle conference (MAC) All-Academic Team for the second
straight year. Cavalieri has a 3.270 grade point average.....more

Named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men’s
At-Large Team

– University of Sciences in Philadelphia senior Glen
Hirsh has been named to the 2009-10 Philadelphia
Inquirer Academic All-Area Men’s At-Large Team. Hirsh is
one of 10 student-athletes selected to this year's Academic
All-Area Men’s At-Large Team. The sports information offices
of the 28 area institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan
area vote for the team.
Hirsh
(Cherokee High School/Marlton, N.J.) is a
fourth-year microbiology major at the University of the
Sciences. Glen currently has a 3.390 overall grade point
average. Hirsh recently completed his fourth season of competition
for the Devils. He finished the season with a smallbore
average of 530.09 and an air rifle average of 527.22 while
competing in every event this season for the Devils. Hirsh
recorded career high scores in both guns against Indiana
university of Pennsylvania on November 14, shooting 545
in smallbore and 543 in air rifle......more

Shooters Named to the MAC All-Academic Rifle Team

- Four members of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia’s
mixed rifle team along with one member of the USP women’s
rifle team have been named to the 2009-2010 Mid Atlantic
Rifle Conference (MAC) All-Academic Team.
USP
mixed team members that earned MAC honors this season were
seniors Glen Hirsh (Cherokee High School/Marlton,
N.J.), Courtney Cavalieri (Highland High School/ Highland,
N.Y.) and freshman
Ed Ryznar (Maplewood
HS/Titusville, Pa.) and Brad
Driscoll (Alvirne HS/Hudson, N.H.).
Junior Nicole Churchill (Pocono
Mountain West HS/ Albrightsville, Pa.) was
the lone member of the USP women's team that was recognized
by the MAC. Cavalieri and Hirsh are repeat selections from
last year's inaugural conference All-Academic Team......more

Shooters Earn CRCA All-Academic Rifle Team Honors

Earns Award for the Fourth Straight Year
Four
members of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia’s
mixed rifle team and two members of the USP women’s rifle
team were named to the 2010 College Rifle Coaches Association
(CRCA) All-Academic Rifle Team which was announced by the
organization earlier this week.
USP
mixed team members that earned CRCA honors this season were
seniors Courtney Cavalieri (Highland High School/
Highland, N.Y.) and Glen Hirsh
(Cherokee High School/Marlton, N.J.) and freshmen
Ed Ryznar (Maplewood
HS/Titusville, Pa.) and Brad
Driscoll (Alvirne HS/Hudson, N.H.).
Senior Elisha Shumard (Toms River North HS/Toms
River, N.J.) and junior
Nicole Churchill (Pocono Mountain
West HS/ Albrightsville, Pa.) were the two
members of the USP women's team that were recognized by
the CRCA. The six athletes were amongst the 110 shooters
nationally named to the All-Academic Team by the CRCA......more

Fall at MAC Championships (3/7/10)
The
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia mixed rifle team
concluded their season Saturday as they lost both their
smallbore and air rifle matches at the Mid Atlantic rifle
Conference (MAC) championships at the United States Coast
Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.
The Devils lost their smallbore match to Massachusetts Institute
of Technology, 2203-2196 and dropped their air rifle match
to Wentworth Institute of Technology 2213-2202. Both matches
were for the MAC Expert Division Championships.
The
freshman duo of Ed Ryznar
(Maplewood HS/Titusville, Pa.) and Brad
Driscoll (Alvirne HS/Hudson, N.H.)
led the Devils in both guns............more
Women's
Team loses to IUP at MAC Championships (3/7/10)
The
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's rifle
team closed out their 2009-10 campaign at Saturday's Mid-Atlatnic
Rifle Conference (MAC) Championships in New London, Connecticut,
losing to Indiana University of Pennsylvania 1980-1926 in
air rifle.
USP's
Nicole Churchill (Pocono Mountain West HS/ Albrightsville,
Pa.) led all shooters in the match, firing
a career-high score of 543. Olivia Brown (Wilson
HS/Sinking Spring, Pa.) was the Devils second
high scorer, shooting 493. Carrie Kwok (Herricks
HS/New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Shaina
Kulp (Elizabethtown HS/Manheim, Pa.) rounded
out the Devils scoring with marks of 469 and 421 respectively.........more

Duo also named to MAC All-Rookie Team

Pa. (February 27, 2010) -
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia freshmen Edward
Ryznar (Maplewood HS/Titusville, Pa.) and Brad
Driscoll (Alvirne HS/Hudson, N.H.) have earned
All-Conference honors for the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference
(MAC) for their performance during the 2009-2010 season. Ryznar
was a second team selection in smallbore and earned honorable
mention in air rifle. Driscoll earned honorable mention accolades
in both smallbore and air rifle.........
....In
addition Ryznar and Driscoll were amongst the ten shooters
named to the MAC All-Rookie Team. The All-Rookie Team is made
up of the ten first year shooters amongst the conference schools
who have the highest single gun average for the season with
a minimum of five matches shot. The two USP shooters were
joined by Ryan Williams of Navy as the only three marksman
in the MAC to be named to both the MAC All-Rookie Team and
the MAC All-Conference Teams.......more

Marks Established at Sectionals (1/31/10)
Four
career high marks were established and another one equaled
as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's
rifle team competed in the Philadelphia Area NRA Sectional
competition over the weekend at the Colonel William Shea Rifle
Range on USP's campus.....
Carrie Kwok (Herricks HS/New Hyde Park, N.Y.)
and Olivia Brown (Wilson HS/Sinking Spring, Pa.)
established new career-highs for both guns during the course
of competition....... In addition, for the the third time
in the last four matches, Nicole Churchill (Pocono
Mountain West HS/ Albrightsville, Pa.) shot
an air rifle score of 539 (92, 86, 89, 94, 93, 85), equaling
her career high.........more

Drop Match to Army, Beat IUP and SUNY Maritime at Sectionals
(1/31/10)
The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia
mixed rifle team opened the first week of the Philadelphia
area NRA sectional competition on Friday, dropping a match
to Army 4626-4447 before rebounding to defeat Indiana University
of Pennsylvania 4447-3969 and SUNY Maritime, 2225-2147 on
the next two days of competition at the Colonel William Shea
Rifle Range on USP's campus.
The
Devils overall record improves to 12-5 overall with the pair
of wins. In the Mid-Atlantic rifle Conference (MAC), only
the match against Maritime counted towards standings along
with postal matches against Wentworth Institute of Technology
and the Wentworth Women's team. The USP mixed team now has
an MAC Smallbore record of 11-2 and an MAC air rifle record
of 10-3. The Devils swept both Wentworth teams (the Wentworth
women only shoot air rifle)............more

Shoots Two Career High Scores; Devils Drop Match to Midshipmen
(1/23/10)
Brad
Driscoll shot career highs in both guns but
the university of the Sciences in Philadelphia mixed rifle
team was defeated by the United States Naval Academy 4630-4435
Saturday in a non-league match at the Colonel William Shea
rifle Range in Philadelphia.
The
loss drops the Devils overall record to 10-4. Navy remains
undefeated at 5-0.
Driscoll
(Alvirne HS/Hudson, N.H.) shot 577 (98, 97 prone;
96, 94 stand; 97, 95 kneel) in smallbore, bettering his career
high by four points. Brad also finished just two points behind
Navy’s Chris Burleson (579) for top smallbore honors. Burleson
is also the current NCAA record holder for a smallbore match

Defeat Women’s Rifle Team (1/22/10)
The
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s rifle team
returned to action for the their first match of the 2010 spring
semester on Friday, losing to the United State Naval Academy
4595 to 3726.
The
loss drops the Devils record to 1-13.
Nicole
Churchill (Pocono Mountain West HS/ Albrightsville, Pa.)
equaled her career high in air rifle, shooting a score of
539 (89, 92, 94, 90, 89, 85) and was the Devils top air rifle
shooter. Nicole also had the top USP score in smallbore with
a score of 471 (93, 81 prone; 76, 72 stand; 83, 66 kneel).........more

Earns Academic Momentum Award (12/3/09)
University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia mixed rifle shooter Glen
Hirsh has been named a winner of the 2009 National
Consortium for Academics and Sports/Scholar-Baller Academic
Momentum Awards.
The NCAS Academic Momentum Awards recognize student-athletes
who have demonstrated a significant academic improvement throughout
their collegiate careers and celebrate them for having the
ability to balance textbooks with playbooks. Hirsh was one
of 79 student-athletes that were nominated and recognized
from 50 different colleges and universities across the country....more

Shoots Career High as Devils Outshoot the Bloodhounds (11/21/09)
Freshman
Brad Driscoll shot a career high
578 in air rifle as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia
mixed rifle team outshot the Bloodhounds from John Jay College
of Criminal Justice 4466-4333 Saturday at the Colonel William
Shea Rifle Range in Philadelphia.
In
shooting their best overall score of the season date, the
Devils also shot an air rifle season best score of 2247 to
go along with their smallbore score of 2219. The win improves
the Devils record to 10-3 overall. In Mid-Atlantic rifle Conference
(MAC) matches the Devils are now 9-2 in smallbore contests
and 7-2 in air rifle. In MAC contests, John Jay falls to 4-8
in smallbore and 7-5 in air rifle contests..........more

Shooters set Five Career-Highs but Devils Lose to Bloodhounds
(11/21/09)
Five
career high marks were set by members of the University of
the Sciences in Philadelphia women's rifle team as they turned
in the best smallbore team score of the season, 1861. However
the Devils dropped their Mid-Atlantic rifle conference match
to John Jay College of Criminal Justice 4333-3819.
The
loss drops the Devils record to 1-12 overall. In MAC contests
the USP women are 1-10 in smallbore and 1-8 in air rifle.
John Jay improves to 4-8 in smallbore and 7-5 in air rifle

Back on Track with Win over IUP (11/14/09)
Senior
Glen Hirsh recorded a career high
in smallbore as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia
mixed rifle team turned in their highest score total to date
to get back on the winning track with a 4457-4026 win over
Indiana University of Pennsylvania in a Mid-Atlantic Rifle
conference match Saturday the Colonel William Shea Rifle Range
in Philadelphia.
The
win improves the Devils overall record to 9-3. In MAC contests
the Devils are 8-2 in smallbore and 6-2 in air rifle.........more

Hawks Defeat Devils (11/14/09)
Indiana
University of Pennsylvania recorded their second win in as
many weeks against the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia
women's rifle team on Saturday, defeating the Devils 4026-3857
at the Colonel William Shea Rifle Range in Philadelphia.
The
loss drops the Devils overall record to 1-11. In Mid-Atlantic
Rifle Conference contests, the USP women are now 1-9 in smallbore
and 1-7 in air rifle.........more

Defeat Devils(11/7/09)
The
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia mixed rifle team
returned to action on Saturday, facing one of the stronger
teams in the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference, the University
of Akron along with Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and
Indiana University of Pennsylvania at the Akron Rifle Invitational
in Akron, Ohio. USP came away with one win in the three matches,
defeating IUP 4401-3941 but falling to the host Zips 4554-4401
and to Rose-Hulman 4447-4401.
USP's
record now stands at 8-3 overall. In MAC matches, the Devils
are now 7-2 in smallbore contests and 5-2 in air rifle.........more

Drop Contests at Akron (11/7/09)
The
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's rifle team
competed last Saturday at the Akron Rifle Invitational in
Akron, Ohio, facing teams from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology,
Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Mid-Atlantic Rifle
conference foe and host University of Akron. The Devils score
of 3681 however was not enough to earn a win on the weekend.
The
women's team suffered three losses, falling to Akron 4554-3681;
Rose-Hulman, 4401- 3681 and to IUP, 3941-3681. Their record
now stands at 1-10 overall. In MAC contests, the USP women
are 1-8 in smallbore and 1-6 in air rifle.........more

Shoots Career High as Devils Defeat Loyola (10/31/09)
Freshman
Ed Ryznar shot a smallbore career
high score of 580, leading the University of the Sciences
in Philadelphia mixed rifle team to a 2236-1735 victory over
Loyola College (Maryland) Saturday at the colonel William
Shea Rifle Range in Philadelphia.
The
win improves the Devils overall record to 7-1. USP also improves
to 7-1 in Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) smallbore contests

Leads Devils to First Win of Season (10/31/09)
Senior
Elisha Shumard shot a season-high
smallbore score of 500 as the University of the Sciences in
Philadelphia women's rifle team earned their first overall
win of the season, an 1850-1735 triumph over Loyola college
(Maryland) at the Colonel William Shea Rifle Range on Saturday.
The
win improves the Devils overall record to 1-7 overall. The
Devils are also 1-7 in Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC)
Smallbore matches.........more

Sweep Keydets (10/25/09)
Freshmen
Brad Driscoll and Ed Ryznar
and senior Courtney Cavalieri had
the top three scores of the day in both smallbore and air
rifle as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia mixed
rifle competed a sweep against Virginia Military Institute's
men's , mixed and women's rifle teams in Lexington, Virginia
on Saturday.
The
Devils defeated the VMI men, 4404-4177 and the VMI mixed team
4403-4048. USP also won against the VMI women, 4403-3764.
The three wins improve USP's overall record to 6-1. In Mid-Atlantic
Rifle Conference (MAC) matches, the Devils are 6-1 in smallbore
and 5-1 in air rifle........more

Women's Rifle Team Swept by Virginia Military Institute (10/24/09)
The
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's rifle team
were swept by the three Virginia Military Institute rifle
teams, losing to the Keydet men, mixed and women's squads
Saturday in Lexington, Virginia.
While
the Devils did suffer three overall losses, the women's team
did earn an MAC Air rifle victory, out-pointing the VMI women,
1950-1892. Overall, the VMI men defeated the Devils, 4177-3689,
the mixed team 4048-3689 and the VMI women won 3764-3689.
The losses drop the Devils overall record to 0-7. In Mid-Atlantic
Rifle Conference (MAC) matches, the USP women are 1-5 in air
rifle and 0-7 in smallbore........more

Rifle Team Defeats Princeton (10/10/09)
The
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia mixed rifle team
had all four designated scorers shoot scores of 540 or better
as they defeated Princeton University 2224-2092 Saturday in
their home opener at the Colonel William Shea rifle Range
in Philadelphia.
