Garcia Named CACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Fine also named to CACC Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. (4/20/09) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia sophomore men’s tennis player Francisco Garcia was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending April 12, 2009.

Garcia (Don Cesar Gascon/Balcarce, Buenos Aires, Argentina.) was perfect on the week with a 3-0 singles record and a 3-0 doubles record in leading the Devils to a 3-0 week, with included wins in two matches against Caldwell College and one against Bloomfield College. The Devils won all three of their matches by identical 9-0 scores.

In singles competition, Garcia played at the number one singles slot for both matches against Caldwell College. On Thursday, Francisco defeated Mike Manna, 6-1, 6-0 and of Sunday, Thane McKenzie, 8-0. In between the two matches, the Devils hosted Bloomfield College on Saturday. Garcia defeated DeVang Patel while playing at #2 singles 6-0, 6-2.

Francisco also won all three doubles matches he competed in this week, teaming with freshman Billy Fine (West Chester East HS/West Chester, Pa.) to earn an 8-0 win at #1 doubles over Caldwell on Thursday, an 8-1 win at #2 doubles over Bloomfield on Saturday and an 8-1 win at #1 doubles over Caldwell on Sunday.

In addition to Garcia earning Player of the Week honors, Fine was named to the CACC Men's Tennis honor roll for his performance last week. Fine was also perfect on the week, going 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles competition. This is second consecutive week that Fine has been named to the CACC honor roll.

Playing at number three singles in all three matches, Fine recorded wins over Caldwell's Josh Getka , 6-0, 6-0 on Thursday, a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bloomfield's Evan McCall on Saturday and an 8-1 pro-set win over Mike Manna of Caldwell on Sunday. In doubles Fine teamed with Garcia to produce a perfect 3-0 record.

Garcia is in his second season as a member of the USP men's tennis team. Francisco is 7-9 overall in singles competition this year, including a 6-3 mark against CACC competition. He is 8-6 in doubles competition (7-2 CACC). Fine is in his first season as a member of the men's tennis team and has an 11-7 singles (9-1 CACC) and 12-4 doubles (8-2 CACC) record this season.
