of the Sciences Athletes Named Academic Achievement Award
Winners
Cleveland,
Ohio (August 10, 2010) - The
Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) announced
the 2009-10 recipients of the DII ADA Academic Achievement
Awards presented by WeatherPORT. The Academic Achievement
Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments
of student-athletes at the Division II level. Twenty-four
student-athletes from the University of the Sciences were amongst the 3,022 athletes recognized from 97 Division II institutions
by the NCAA Division II Athletic Directors Association (DII
ADA).
In order to be recognized as an Academic Achievement Award
recipient, the student athlete must have a cumulative grade
point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale; have attended
a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work
and be an active member of an intercollegiate team during
his/her last academic year. The institution’s athletic director
must also be a current dues paying member of the DII ADA......more

Men's
Tennis Team Captures CACC Sportsmanship Award
Ricardo
Martins
won two matches and advanced to Saturday's semi-final round
of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Individual Tournament
singles competition held on Friday at Chestnut Hill College.
On Saturday, Martins lost to Manoli Sgouros in the semi-finals.
In
reaching the semi-finals, Ricardo Martins (Idegeio
Pentagono/Sao Paolo, Brazil), a senior, earned
a spot on this year's CACC All-Conference Men's Tennis Team,
joining singles and doubles finalists Adrian Torroella-Cruz
and Sgouros of Philadelphia University, doubles finalists
Julius Twyman and Carson Richter of Chestnut Hill College
and single semi-finalist, Joe Boyle, also of Chestnut Hill
College. Entering the singles competition, Martins had an
overall singles record of 9-7.....
.......The
Men's Tennis Team also earned the CACC Team Sportsmanship
Award. The CACC Team Sportsmanship Award is given to the team
in each sponsored conference sport that best exemplifies the
spirit of athletic competition and sportsmanship. The voting
for this award is done by the league's seven coaches. The
USP men's athletic programs have now won three of the five
CACC Team Sportsmanship Awards that have been given out so
far during the 2009-2010 season.........more

Sweeps Devils in CACC Semi-Finals (4/20/10)
The nationally ranked Concordia
College men's tennis team handed the University of the Sciences
a 5-0 loss in Tuesday afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference semi-final match at the College Racquet Club in
Bronxville, New York.
The
Devils finish their 2009-10 campaign with a 7-10 record and
awaiting the possibility of a second consecutive at-large
NCAA bid. The Clippers go on to face Philadelphia University
in the CACC Championship on Tuesday.........more

Complete Season Sweep of Eagles (4/10/10)
Two
days after their hard-fought match against Chestnut Hill College,
the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's tennis
team wasted little time in completing a season sweep of Post
University, defeating the Eagles 9-0 at McNeil Field Courts
on Saturday.
The
Devils improve to 5-7 overall and 5-3 in Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference matches.
USP
started the afternoon with a sweep of the three doubles contests.
The Devils top doubles team of Francisco
Garcia (Don Cesar Gascon/Balcarce
Buenos Aires, Argentina)
and Bill
Fine (West Chester East HS/West Chester, Pa.)
defeated Caio Rodrigues and Andrew Olivera, 8-1. Roger
Van Scyoc (Palmyra Area HS/Palmyra, Pa.) and
Joshua Garcia (St. John Neumann Regional Academy/
Williamsport, Pa.) were also 8-1 victors, defeating
Mike MacDonald and Markeese McLeod at #2 doubles. Dan
Rubin (Neshaminy HS/Langhorne, Pa.) and Jason
Chen (John P. Stevens/Edison, N.J.) completed
the sweep with an 8-0 win over Tyrone Napper and Franze Noze

Rally to Defeat Griffins (4/8/10)
The University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia men’s tennis team rallied
from a 3-0 deficit after losing all three doubles matches
against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rival Chestnut
Hill College Thursday at USP’s McNeil field courts. The Devils
swept all six singles matches to win the match 6-3.
The two
teams now have identical 4-3 record in conference matches.
Chestnut Hill is 10-8 overall while Sciences is 4-7.
The
tone was set early for the doubles contests with a double
fault by the Devils on the very first serve of the #1 doubles
match. Chestnut Hill’s Pat Joson and Joe Boyle went on to
win the match 8-6, defeating Francisco

The
nationally ranked Concordia College men's tennis team came
into Philadelphia on Tuesday and handed the University of
the Sciences in Philadelphia men's tennis team their second
9-0 loss of the season.
The
loss drops the Devils record to 3-7 overall and 3-3 in Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference matches. Concordia remains
undefeated in league matches with a 5-0 record.

The
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's tennis team
recorded their third conference win of the season with their
third sweep of the season, a 9-0 win over host Post University
Saturday afternoon in Waterbury, Connecticut.
Sciences
improves to 3-6 overall and 3-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate
conference matches with the win.
The
Devils won all three doubles contests to start the match with
Ricardo Martins and Chris Lukose defeating Caio Rodrigues
and Andrew Olivera 8-0 at #1 doubles and Daniel Rubin and

The
loss drops the Devils record to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in CACC
matches.
Martins
won his number one singles match defeating Adrian Torroella-Cruz
6-3, 7-6 (11-9). however the rest of the team did not fare
as well as the Devils dropped the remaining five singles matches

Playing
their second match in as many days, the University of the
Sciences in Philadelphia men's tennis team recorded their
second sweep in as many matches, defeating Caldwell College
8-0 at the McNeil Field Courts in Philadelphia.
Sciences
improves to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference matches with the win. The Cougars fall to 0-2,
both overall and in league play.
The
Devils won all three doubles contests to start the match with

and Anish Kansaker 8-0 at #1 doubles and Joshua Garcia and

Bloomsburg
University took no prisoners in Saturday's men's tennis match
against the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, handing
the Devils their fourth consecutive defeat, a 9-0 sweep.
The
loss drops the Devils record to 0-4 on the season.

lost of three doubles matches to start the contest, with Ken
Connelly and Joshua Garcia's match at #3 doubles being the
closest of the three, and 8-3 pro-set loss. Ricardo Martins

The
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's tennis team
opened the 2010 portion of their season Wednesday afternoon
traveling to the Main Line to take on Haverford College in
a non-league contest. The Fords defeated the Devils in the
match 8-1.
Sciences
falls to 0-3 with the loss. Haverford, ranked #9 in the Atlantic
region for Division III improves to 3-1. Haverford took two
points in doubles and swept through singles in straight sets.
The
Devils lone point of the match came at #3 doubles. Ken
