Adefemi Named CACC Men’s Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week
New Haven- Conn. (1/28/08) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men’s basketball player Adewale Adefemi (Winslow Township HS/Chesilhurst, N.J.) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week for his performance for the week ending January 27, 2008 along with Felician College center Sherrod Barrow.
Adefemi, a 6’5” freshman, averaged 13.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.33 steals per game in three contests during the week.
Opening the week against Lincoln University, Adefemi scored 15 points, hitting five of 11 shots from the field and five free throws as the Devils defeated the Lions 81-75. Adewale also pulled down a game high eight rebounds. Adefemi followed his Lincoln performance with a 17-point, six rebound, and three steal effort against Holy Family as the Devils fell to their area rival 69-58. ‘Wale also sank his first collegiate three-point field goal in the second half.
Adefemi closed out the week against Dominican College, scoring nine points and pulling down six rebounds in 22 minutes of action before having to leave the game with an injury. For the week, ‘Wale scored a total of 41 points, second most on the Devils squad while shooting 45.2% (14-31) from the field and 63.2% from the free throw line (12-19).
The former Winslow Township High School athlete is in his first season of play for the Devils. Adefemi is currently the Devils second leading scorer, averaging 10.5 points per game and has averaged 12.6 points per game since moving into the starting lineup eight games ago. He is currently the Devils leading rebounder at 7.9 per game and his 56 free throws made is tops on the Devils squad.
Adefemi is a pharmaceutical marketing/management major at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
