is Named to CACC All-Conference Men’s Basketball Team
Devils Win Team
Sportsmanship Award
New Haven, Conn. (3/5/09) - University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's basketball player Adewale Adefemi (Winslow Township High School/ Chesilhurst, N.J.) was named today to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Conference Team as a third team selection. The voting is done by the league’s 12 coaches.
Adefemi, a sophomore forward, led the Devils this season in scoring (13.0 points/game), rebounds (194, 7.2/game) and assists (60, 2.2/gm.). Adewale is also second on the team in blocked shots (12) and third on the team in field goal percentage (41.3%) and steals (25).
Adewale’s 7.2 rebounds per game average currently rank him sixth in the CACC. Adefemi also ranks 2nd in the league in offensive rebound (3.11/game), 12th in defensive rebounds (4.07/game) and 15th in the league in scoring.
A second-year player for the Devils, Adewale moved into a starting role midway through the 2007-08 season and has played in a total of 51 games, amassing 599 career points and 366 career rebounds to date.
The former Winslow Township High School athlete is in his second season of play for the Devils. Adefemi is a pharmaceutical marketing/management major at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men’s basketball team was also selected as the recipient of the 2009 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Team Sportsmanship Award. The CACC Team Sportsmanship Award is given to the team in each sponsored conference sport that best exemplifies the spirit of athletic competition and sportsmanship. The voting for this award is also done by the league’s 12 coaches.
The men’s basketball team is the second USP team to earn the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award during the 2008-09 sports year, joining the women’s tennis team. They are the fifth USP team to have earned the sportsmanship award over its nine year existence. To date USP athletic teams have won ten CACC Team Sportsmanship Awards with the women’s cross country and women’s tennis each winning the award three times. Men’s Cross Country (twice) and Men’s Baseball (once) are the other two USP teams to win the award.
