Close out Season with Third Place Finish (4/19/08)
The University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia golf team closed out their 2007-08 season
on Friday with a third place finish against six teams at Island Green
Country Club in Philadelphia.
The Devils finished
with a score of 335, one stroke behind second place Caldwell College (334)
and 13 strokes behind top team Goldey Beacom College (322). In fourth
place was Philadelphia University with a score of 347. Felician College
(348) and Chestnut Hill College (369) rounded out the schools competing.
USP's second place
finish allowed the Devils to complete the season with a 15-13 record,
their first winning record in team history.
Felician's
Joe Peters finished with the best score of the day, a three-over 75 to
earn medalist honors. Goldey Beacom's Justin Grossman and Travis Parker
finished tied for second with 79, four strokes behind Peters. Sophomore's
Scott
Cahayla (Lakeland Regional/ Ringwood, NJ)
and Dan
Lovette (Bishop McCort HS/Davidsville, Pa.)
finished in third and fourth place respectively. Cahayla
was five strokes behind the winner with an 80 while Lovette
was one back with 81.
Three strokes
behind Lovette was the Devils' third finisher,
freshman Jason
Franck (Twin Valley High School/ Elverson, Pa.).
Franck shot an 84 to finish in a tie for 12th
place. Junior Michael
Moll (Wilson Area HS/Easton, Pa.)
rounded out the USP scorers with a round of 90 to finish 19th amongst
the 30 golfers participating in the match.
Also competing
for the Devils were senior Blake
Vida (Pomperaug Regional HS/ Southbury, Conn.)
and junior Lauren
Wallis (Carbondale Area HS/Carbondale, Pa.).
Vida finished with a score of 93 while Wallis
shot 113.
Wes Hood and John
Marsteller joined Grossman and Parker to form Goldey Beacom's winning
team on the afternoon, shooting identical scores of 82, good enough for
fifth place and giving Goldey Beacom the title with a score of 332.
Caldwell was led
by Chris Parker's score of 82. Bryan Luyster and Joe Vacca followed with
83's and John DePeri added a score of 86, giving the Cougars a total score
of 334.
Felician's
Joe Leardo also finished in the top ten with a score of 82, tying him
for fifth place amongst the golfers competing. Chestnut Hill's Mike Gibbons
finished in a tie for ninth place with a score of 83. Philadelphia University's
P.J. O'Brien and Felician's Rob Young finished tied for 12th with scores
of 84. John McLaughlin of Chestnut Hill rounded out the top half of the
field with a 15th place finish, shooting 85.
Devils
Place Eighth at CACC Championships (4/15/08)
The University of
the Sciences in Philadelphia golf team completed their second round of
the 2008 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Golf Championships Tuesday
afternoon at Back Creek Golf Club in Middletown, Delaware, finishing with
a score of 355 and a two day total of 705 to place eighth amongst the
ten teams eligible for the team title.
Post University won
the title for the third consecutive year with a score of 601. The Eagles
had all four scorers finish in the top ten and earn All-Conference honors.
Host Wilmington College was second with a score of 623 and Goldey Beacom
College was third with a score of 627. Dominican College (628), holy Family
University (672), Nyack College (678) and Caldwell College (705), rounded
out the remaining top seven finishers.
Post's David McGregor
shot a four-under 67 in his final round to earn medalist honors for the
tournament with a two-day total of 142. McGregor, a freshman was also
named CACC Rookie of the Year.
For the Devils, they
were paced by sophomore Dan Lovette (Bishop McCort HS/Davidsville,
Pa.). Lovette shot 81 in each
of his two rounds to finish in a tie for 17th place with a score of 161.
Freshman Jason Franck (Twin Valley High School/ Elverson,
Pa.) finished in a tie for 23rd place with a score of 169
(87, 82).
Rounding out USP's
top four scores were sophomore Scott Cahayla (Lakeland Regional/
Ringwood, NJ) and junior Michael
Moll (Wilson Area HS/Easton, Pa.). Cahayla
followed his first round score of 83 with a score of 98 to finish in 39th
place with a score of 169. Moll finished in 45th place amongst the 53
golfers competing with a score of 194 (100, 94).
Dominican College's
Head Coach Wayne Mackey earned Coach of the Year Honors while Nyack won
the team sportsmanship award.
USP will have one
more match to conclude their season on Friday, April 18, 2008 at Island
Green Country Club. Scheduled to compete are Caldwell College, Chestnut
Hill College, Felician College, Goldey Beacom College and Philadelphia
University.
Another
Second Place Finish for the Devils (4/4/08)
Shooting their best score of the season, the University of the Sciences
in Philadelphia took second place at their final match before the Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference championships, narrowly losing to Nyack
College in a quad match at Island Green Country Club in Philadelphia on
Thursday.
The Devils and the Warriors both finished the match with identical scores
of 325. Nyack finished first by virtue of their fifth golfer, who shot
a 96 compared to USP's fifth golfer who shot a 97. USP also earned wins
against Felician College (347) and Immaculata University (357). The Devils
improve to 12-11 on the season.
Felician's Joe Peters earned medalist honors shooting a three-over par
round of 75. USP sophomore Dan
Lovette (Bishop McCort HS/Davidsville, Pa.) finished
tied for second, two strokes behind Peters with a score of 77. Sophomore
Scott
Cahayla (Lakeland Regional/Ringwood, NJ) was tied
for fourth place, one stroke behind Lovette with a score of 78.
Freshman Jason
Franck (Twin Valley High School/ Elverson, Pa.) finished
seventh amongst the 21 golfers competing, shooting a round of 82. Junior
Michael
Moll (Wilson Area HS/Easton, Pa.) rounded
out the Devils top four scorers with a score of 88, good enough for 13th
place.
Nyack was paced by Jonathan Carr's five-over score of 77. Andrew Barajikian
finished overall with a score of 81. John Driver and Erik Salvesen were
eighth and ninth respectively with scores of 83 and 84.
Peters paced the Felician team and was followed by Joe Leardo's 78. Rob
Young and Nick Lyons rounded out the Golden Falcon's scorers with marks
of 86 and 108.
Immaculata was led by John Lynch who shot an 85 for the match. Rob Blair
finished two strokes behind Lynch with a score of 87. Chris Ware and Zack
Robie shot 91 and 94 respectively.
Three other golfers also competed for the Devils. USP's fifth scorer
Tony
Vanetesse (James Buchanan HS/ Chambersburg, Pa.)
shot 97. Shooting non-scoring rounds were senior Nate
Zook (Cumberland Valley Christian/Chambersburg, Pa.)
and sophomore Jon
Kendter (Loyalsock Township HS/Montoursville, Pa.).
Zook shot a 91 while Kendter
shot 104.
The Devils will return to action at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
Championships on April 14-15, 2008 at Frog Hollow golf Club in Middletown,
Delaware.
Devils
Finish Second at Edgemont (3/29/08)
The University of
the Sciences golf team closed out the week with a second place finish
in a four-team match on Friday at Edgemont Golf Club in Edgmont, Pennsylvania.
The Devils score
of 346 was bettered only by Widener University’s 323 mark. USP earned
wins against Philadelphia University (356) and Chestnut Hill College (386).
USP’s record is now 10-10.
Widener’s Kyle Durham
recorded the best score of the match, finishing with a score of 76. One
stroke behind Durham was USP sophomore Dan Lovette (Bishop
McCort HS/Davidsville, Pa.) with a score of 77. Widener
had the next two scores as James Presto shot 78 and Jon Silva 82.
Finishing in a tie
for fifth was sophomore Scott Cahayla (Lakeland Regional/Ringwood,
NJ), who completed his round with a score of 83. Freshman
Jason Franck (Twin Valley High School/ Elverson, Pa.) finished
seventh, one stroke behind Cahayla with a score
of 84. Junior Lauren Wallis (Carbondale Area HS/Carbondale,
Pa.) rounded out the Devils scorers with a score of 102.
USP returns to action
with a quad match on their home course of Island Green Country Club on
April 3, 2008. Felician College, Nyack College and Immaculata University
will be competing with the Devils.

Place Third at Rolling Green (3/24/08)
The University of
the Sciences in Philadelphia golf team placed third in a five-team match
hosted by Swarthmore College at Rolling Green Golf Club Monday afternoon.
The Devils recorded
a score of 327 to finish 16 strokes behind first place Holy Family University
(311) and eight strokes behind Cabrini College (319). Host Swarthmore
College was fourth with a score of 336 and Eastern University finished
fifth with a score of 346.
Holy Family golfers
Matt Deckert and Jonathan Radick recorded the two best scores on the afternoon,
shooting a 75 and 77 respectively. USP sophomore Scott
Cahayla (Lakeland Regional/Ringwood, NJ) finished
in a five way tied for third with a score of 78. Freshman Jason
Franck (Twin Valley High School/Elverson, Pa.) and
sophomore Dan
Lovette (Bishop McCort HS/Davidsville, Pa.) finished
two strokes behind Cahayla and tied for tenth
place with scores of 80. Junior Michael Moll

top four scorers finishing in 19th place with a score of 89.

Snap USP Win Streak (3/21/08)
Holy Family University's
snapped the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia's golf team's winning
streak at two with a 352-376 win over the Devils Thursday at Island Green
Country Club in Northeast Philadelphia.
The loss drops the
Devils to 5-7 on the season.
The Tigers turned
in the two lowest scores in the match as Matt Deckert finished at eight-over
par 80 and Jon Raddick followed with an 83. Freshman Jason
Franck (Twin Valley High School/Elverson, Pa.) was
the Devils low scorer of the match, shooting an 86 on the afternoon. Sophomore
Dan Lovette (Bishop McCort HS/Davidsville,
Pa.) followed with a 91.
Don Masterson and
Ed Szamblak rounded out Holy Family's top four scorers on the afternoon,
shooting 93 and 96 respectively. Junior Michael
Moll (Wilson Area HS/Easton, Pa.) followed with a
97 and senior Nate Zook (Cumberland Valley Christian/Chambersburg,
Pa.) rounded out the Devils scorers with a score of 102.
Senior Blake
Vida (Pomperaug Regional HS/ Southbury, Conn.)
also shot a 102 on the afternoon. Holy Family's Bob Finn shot 100 as a
non-scoring competitor.

to action when they participate in a six-team match at Rolling Green Golf
Club on Monday, March 24, 2008. Teams competing will include Holy Family
University, Richard Stockton College, Eastern University, Cabrini College
and host Swarthmore College.

Record their Second Straight Win (3/19/08)
The University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia golf team narrowly won their second straight
match on Tuesday, defeating Chestnut Hill College by one stroke, 358-359
at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club.
The Devils
improve to 5-6 on the season with the win.
Sophomore
Dan Lovette (Bishop McCort HS/Davidsville, Pa.)
led all scorers, shooting a 75 on the afternoon to finish six strokes
ahead of Chestnut Hill's Mike Gibbons (81). Sophomore Scott
Cahayla (Lakeland Regional/Ringwood, NJ) was seven strokes
back, finishing with a score of 82 on the day.
The Griffins
had the next two scores as Darrell Bachman shot 86 and John McLaughlin
92. Junior Michael Moll (Wilson Area HS/Easton, Pa.)
followed with a 98. Bobby Larkin rounded out CHC's four scorers with a
mark of 100 while freshman Tony Vanetesse (James Buchanan
HS/ Chambersburg, Pa.) shot 103 to round out USP's top four.

Golf Team Kicks Off Spring Season with a Win (3/15/08)
The University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia golf team opened up the spring portion
of their 2007-08 season with a 353-363 win over Chestnut Hill College
at Island Green Country Club on Friday.
The win
improves the Devils record to 4-6 on the season.
Sophomores
Dan Lovette (Bishop McCort HS/Davidsville, Pa.)
and Scott Cahayla (Lakeland Regional/Ringwood, NJ)
produced the two best scores of the match shooting 76 and 79 respectively.
After recording 39 on the front nine, Lovette
finished with a one-over 37 on the back nine including a birdie on 18
to finish the match four strokes over par. Cahayla
also birdied 18 en route to his score of 79.
The Griffins
recorded the next three low scores of the day as Mike Gibbons shot an
83, Darrell Bachman an 88 and Jon McLaughlin a 92.
Junior Lauren
Wallis (Carbondale Area HS/Carbondale, Pa.) had the next
low score, shooting a 95. Wallis was playing as a non-counter and did
not factor into the team scoring. Freshman Tony Vanetesse
(James Buchanan HS/Chambersburg, Pa.) and junior Michael
Moll (Wilson Area HS/Easton, Pa.) rounded out the Devils
top four scorers, shooting 98 and 100 respectively.
Chestnut
Hill's Bobby Larkin rounded out the Griffins scorers with 100. John Durante
finished with a score of 101 and USP sophomore Jon
Kendter (Loyalsock Township HS/Montoursville, Pa.)
finished the day with a 102.

Edge Felician at Island Green (9/26/07)
The University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia golf team earned their second win of the
2007-08 season with a 376-379 win over Felician College Tuesday afternoon
at Island Green Country Club in northeast Philadelphia.
The win
improves the Devils record to 2-4 overall. The win was also their first
against a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent this
season.
Freshman
Jason Franck (Twin Valley High School/Elverson, Pa.)
led the Devils with a score of 84. Junior Michael Moll (Wilson
Area HS/Easton, Pa.) followed with a scored of 93. Sophomore
Dan Lovette (Bishop McCort HS/Davidsville, Pa.) also
carded a 93, despite two birdies on the first five holes. Junior
Lauren Wallis (Carbondale Area HS/Carbondale, Pa.) rounded
out the Devils top four scorers with a score of 106.
Felician
was led by Joe Leardo and Joe Peters. Leardo recorded the low score of
the match with an 83. Peters was one stroke behind him with an 84. Albie
Sanguiliano followed with a 93 and Greg Patullo rounded out the Golden
Falcons scoring with a 119.
The Devils
trailed by six strokes at the turn, 180-186, but quickly cut that in half
on the par-5 10th hole, as Lovette and Franck
parred the hole while Felician recorded two double bogeys and a triple
bogey to make the score 207-210. Moll's birdie
on 11 helped bring the Devils back within one stroke and despite three
bogeys and a double bogey on 12 by the USP golfers, the Devils managed
to tie the score at 249-249.
USP took
the lead on the par-3 13th as Moll and Lovette
parred the hole while Wallis and Franck
bogeyed. Felician had bogeys from Sanguiliano and Peters, a double bogey
from Leardo and a seven from Patullo to give USP a six stroke lead 263-269.
The Devils increased the lead to ten strokes after the 16th hole, bettering
the Golden Falcons 22-27 to lead 331-341.
Felician
however cut the lead in half on the par-4 17th as Sanguiliano birdied
and Peters and Leardo parred. All four USP golfers had a bogey or worse
as Felician outshot USP on the hole 17-22 to make the score 353-358. Leardo
birdied the par-5 18th, but the Golden Falcons could shave only two strokes
off the Devils lead as Wallis and Lovette
salvaged par for the hole to help secure the Devils' victory, 376-379.
USP returns
to action on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 to face Holy Family University at
Frankford-Torresdale Country Club.

Narrowly Defeated by Rams in Season Opener (9/13/07)
The University of
the Sciences in Philadelphia golf team kicked off their 2007-08 campaign
at Island Green Country Club Wednesday afternoon, losing to Philadelphia
University by four strokes, 352-356.
The top two scores
on the afternoon were turned in by USP golfers. Freshman Jason
Franck (Twin Valley High School/Elverson, Pa.) shot a 75
while sophomore Scott Cahayla (Lakeland Regional/Ringwood,
NJ) finished three strokes behind Franck with a score
of 78.
The Rams top golfer,
P.J. O'Brien also turned in a score of 78. He was followed by Russ Pierson
and Kyle Flanagan with scores of 89 and 90 respectively. USP's third golfer
junior Blake Vida (Pomperaug
Regional HS/ Southbury, Conn.) was next with
a score of 94. The Rams James Balletto rounded out their scorers with
a round of 95, allowing Philadelphia to finish the afternoon with a score
of 352. Sophomore Jon Kendter
(Loyalsock Township HS/Montoursville, Pa.) rounded
out the Devils four scorers with a round of 109 as the Devils fell four
strokes short with a 356 score.
USP is now 0-1 on
the season.
