Chesnavich and Adefemi Named to CACC Basketball Honor Rolls
New Haven, Conn. (2/2/09) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s Basketball player Erin Chesnavich (Bishop O’Reilly High School/Pittston, Pa.) and men’s basketball player Adewale Adefemi (Winslow Township HS/Chesilhurst, N.J.) were named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s and Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Rolls for their performances during the week ending January 31, 2009.
Chesnavich, a 6’1” junior forward, recorded double-doubles in both games this week to extend her consecutive game double-double streak to eight (every game in January). This week’s selection to the CACC honor roll marks the seventh time this season and fourth consecutive week that Chesnavich has been honored by the conference, including earning Player of the Week recognition on January 19, 2009. Erin averaged 15.5 points and 15 rebounds in leading the Devils to a 2-0 week.
Opening the week against Chestnut Hill College, Chesnavich grabbed a career high 20 rebounds while scoring 15 points on a 6-11 shooting from the field. Erin followed this with her eighth consecutive double-double and 11th of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the Devils’ 59-48 win over Dominican College. For the week, Chesnavich connected on 63.2% of her shots from the field (12-19), scoring 31 points and pulling down 30 rebounds.
The sophomore Adefemi averaged 13 points, 13 rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals as he led the Devils to a perfect 2-0 week. Adewale shot 43.5% (10-23) from the field in USP’s two contests.
Adefemi opened the week with an 11-point, 10 rebound effort against Chestnut Hill College as the Devils hung on to win 51-49. ‘Wale’s layup in the final minute proved to be the game winner. The sophomore forward followed that with 15 points and a career-high 16 rebounds against Dominican College helping the Devils win their third straight game. Adefemi recorded ten points and nine rebounds in the second half as he recorded his third consecutive double-double. Adewale also led the Devils with four assists in the game.
A former Winslow Township High School athlete, Adefemi is in his second season of play for the Devils and is a pharmaceutical marketing/management major at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
Chesnavich, a former Bishop O’Reilly High School athlete, is in her third season of play for the Devils and is a double major (biology and physician assistant) at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
