DeVincenzo, Maher Named to CACC All-Conference Second Team

New Haven, Conn. – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia senior Justin DeVincenzo and junior Philip Maher were named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Conference Baseball Team as Second Team selections as announced today by the conference office. The All-CACC teams are chosen by the league’s nine coaches.

The 2007 season makes the first time since the 2003 season that the Devils have had two second-team all-conference selections in the same season. USP has not had a first-team All-CACC selection since they joined the league in 1999. The USP baseball team finished the season with a 5-25 record.

Maher (Norristown High School/Norristown, Pa.), named as a utility player, finished the season with a .311 batting average, second on the team behind DeVincenzo (Bishop Hoban High School/ Plains, Pa.). The junior pitcher/outfielder led the Devils in hits (32), runs scored (16), doubles (8), and stolen bases (9). On the mound, Maher had a 7.03 earned run average and a 2-6 record in nine starts with a league leading four complete games. The junior hurler was second on the team in strikeouts with 42. Maher becomes the first USP player to earn All-CACC recognition two times, earning Second Team All-CACC honors as a pitcher in 2005.

DeVincenzo led the team in batting with a .330 average and was named to the second team as a third baseman. The senior infielder played in 25 of the Devils 30 games, recording 29 hits with six doubles and was the toughest player on the team to strikeout, whiffing just once in every 11 at-bats. DeVincenzo also had a 0-2 record in six appearances as pitcher in 2007.

Justin closed out his career with 132 hits in 131 games to rank third on the Devils all-time list behind Vincent Madeline (139), who played for USP from 200-2003 and was an All-CACC selection in 2003; and Ken Bevenour (138), who played from 1983-87 and is a member of the institution’s Athletic Hall of Fame. With 24 career doubles and 63 RBI, DeVincenzo ranks sixth and ninth respectively amongst USP’s all-time leaders in these categories.

Maher has completed his third season as a member of the Devils baseball team while DeVincenzo has completed his fourth and final season of play for USP. Both players are pursuing Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
