Curry Named to ABCA/Rawlings Northeast Region Team
Becomes First USP Player to Earn an ABCA All-Region Spot

Easton, Mass. (5/19/08) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia senior outfielder Michael Curry was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Division II Northeast Region Baseball Team as a second team selection. The announcement came today from Patrick Boen, Head Baseball Coach at Stonehill College and the Northeast Regional chair of the ABCA Division II All-America Committee.

Curry (St. Pius X High School/Collegeville, Pa.) becomes the first USP baseball player ever to earn a spot on an ABCA Division II All-Region Team. Curry joins eight other players from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) as ABCA first or second team All-Regions selections. Six of these eight also earned spots on the Daktronics Division II All Northeast Region first or second team.

The senior outfielder also became the first USP baseball player to hit over .400 since the 2001 season. Curry set a school record with 61 hits this season while hitting a robust .415. Playing in 26 of the Devils 27 CACC games, Curry performed even better at the plate in these contests, banging out 42 hits in 92 at-bats for a .457 league-leading Conference-only batting average.

Overall, Curry finished second in the league in batting and was tied for third in the league the league with 61 hits. Michael is also third in the league in on-base percentage (.480) and tenth in slugging percentage (.490). The former Saint Pius X High School athlete finished the year leading the Devils in batting average, hits, on-base percentage, slugging average, games started (44), runs scored (24), stolen bases (4) and was second on the team in RBI (25).

Curry closed out his career with a two consecutive three-hit games against Dominican College to raise his career hit total to 101 in just 102 games played, becoming just the 12th player in school history to record 100 career hits. His .344 career batting average is eighth best in the history of the program.

The former Saint Pius X High School athlete has completed his fourth and final season as a member of the USP baseball team. Academically, Curry is in his second professional year as a student in the university’s Doctor of Pharmacy program.
