Preparation, Retention, and Enrichment Program (PREP)
PREP is USP's small learning community that focuses on students
who would benefit from academic support and financial assistance.
Some students need just a little extra support and preparation
for the university learning experience. Because USP wants each of
our students to maximize their potential as students, we have created
the PREP program for students who may benefit from some additional
help and guidance.

Who is eligible to apply to PREP
and how can I apply?
Entering students who meet income guidelines and who have been
accepted to USP as full-time students for the upcoming fall semester
are eligible to apply to PREP. Applicants must complete and file
a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form in order
to be considered for the program. To acquire this form visit www.pheaamentor.org
on the web, or go to your high school's guidance office.
To be considered for PREP, students need to complete an application
and write an essay. Once selected for consideration, applicants
then attend an on-campus interview accompanied by a parent or guardian.
PREP accepts a maximum of 16 new members each academic year, and
selection is based on financial and academic need, as well as demonstrated
enthusiasm for participation in the small learning community.
How will PREP help me academically and
personally?
PREP students attend an eight-week summer residential program that
takes place on campus the summer following high school graduation.
The curriculum includes:
- pre-college academic courses in math, biology, English, and
chemistry, taught by college professors
- college readiness, including study skills, career development,
personal transition to college, and introduction to campus resources.
The program is staffed by counselors who are active PREP students
themselves. The counselors serve as mentors to the new students
and introduce them to college life.
PREP students remain members of the small learning community throughout
their academic careers at USP. As a result of their intensive summer
expreience, PREP students participate as memebers of the peer-mentoring
network to provide ongoing support for each other. To help ensure
success, PREP students' academic progress is closely monitored while
they receive individualized academic counseling and career development
support from PREP staff.
Special programs are provided to enrich PREP students' personal
and pre-professional growth, as well as provide opportunities for
internships, service learning, and leadership training for this
small learning community.
How can PREP help me financially?
PREP students in good standing receive a tuition award for each
year enrolled full-time in a degree program at USP. They also receive
financial assistance with housing and textbook costs for the first
two years of their enrollment. The PREP staff is available to give
students guidance to find financial aid solutions and to use campus
resources to resolve financial aid difficulties.
I think I may be eligible for PREP.
