Staying Connected with Students
From lecturing and teaching in the classroom or the lab to taking
in students for preceptoring/internships/clerkships, USP alumni
can find a multitude of ways to connect with current USP students.
USP
STARs (Support Team of Alumni Representatives)
Think you live too far away to help your Alma Mater?
Then you’re just who we’re looking for!!
If you’re interested in joining the USP STARs and helping
out with College Fairs, High School Visits, and Alumni Referrals
or just want more information, please contact Annemarie
Nagle in the Admission Office. Phone –
215-596-8597 or Email – a.nagle@usip.edu.
Guest lecturing
Guest lecturing to a class or even a symposium is always a great
way to reach students. For example, Michael Mercanti
P’84, JD, presented a talk titled “Intellectual Property
101: Learning to Protect USP’s Scholarly Assets” at
the Research Colloquium on November 21. Five alumni, ELINOR
H. CANTOR PH’73, MICHAEL S. WOLFE
C’84, SUSAN MORINE B’98, KENNETH
W. KINZLER TX’83, and LEONARD S. JACOB B’70,
took part in the panel discussion titled “Shaping Science
in the 21st Century: Foundations from the Past, Pillars for the
Future” on September 14 as part of the dedication of the McNeil
Science and Technology Center.
Career pathways program
On a more personal level, the Career Pathways Program provides
an opportunity for alumni to interface with pharmacy majors who
have similar interests.
Internship and clerkship positions
Numerous alumni accept students for internship and clerkship positions.
No place seems too far away: QUANG VO PharmD’03
is hosting a student at the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation in
Bethel, Alaska.
Receptions
If the classroom or workplace does not fit, then attend a USP Alumni
Association-sponsored reception, dinner, or breakfast at the many
different national and regional professional meetings. A reception
connected with the American Physical Therapy Association Preview
2020 national meeting in Philadelphia attracted 35 alumni, faculty
and staff members, and students. Some 100 students and 150 alumni
mingled at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists reception.
Athletics
New this year for athletic alumni: Each sport will have a designated
home game at which alumni from that sport will be invited back for
a parent-student reception.
