Faculty members in the Department of Physical Therapy are nationally recognized and well published. They include APTA board-certified specialists in sports medicine, geriatrics, orthopedics and neurology. Each faculty member is not only a respected clinician, but also a talented and well-versed educator. Along with giving you a solid foundation in techniques, our faculty members foster a mentoring environment, giving guidance during every phase of the DPT program.

Marc Campolo, PT, PhD, SCS, ATC, CSCS

Dr. Campolo received his BS in physical therapy from Hunter College, his MA in exercise physiology from Adelphi University, and his PhD in health sciences from Seton Hall University. He is an American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties-certified sports clinical specialist, and a member of the sports and education sections of the American Physical Therapy Association. His research interest is in the area of electrotherapy and muscle activation patterns. Dr. Campolo has published and presented nationally.

Michelle E. Cohen, PhD

Dr. Cohen received her BA in psychology from Beaver College (now Arcadia University) and both her masters in education in human learning and cognition and her doctorate in educational psychology from Temple University. Her interests include rehabilitation outcomes and quality of life. She has been published in more than 35 peer reviewed journals of medicine, rehabilitation and psychology.

Dr. Hoglund earned her BS and Certificate in Physical Therapy from the University of Michigan. She earned her PhD in Physical Therapy from Temple University. Dr. Hoglund is a board-certified orthopaedic clinical specialist as well as a specialist in the McKenzie method of physical therapy. She is a member of the orthopaedic, education and research sections of the American Physical Therapy Association and a member of the Association of Rheumatology Health Professionals. Her research interests are in the area of biomechanics and function of the lower extremities in persons with patellofemoral pain syndrome and osteoarthritis of the knee. She has presented nationally.

Dr. Johnston received her BA from the University of Pennsylvania, her MBA in Health Administration from St. Joseph's University, her MS in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University, and her PhD in Physical Therapy from Temple University.  Her research interests include interventions to improve the health, fitness, and function of children and adults with spinal cord injury or cerebral palsy, with a special focus on the use of functional electrical  stimulation.  Dr. Johnston has published over 30 articles in peer reviewed journals and has presented nationally and internationally on these topics.  She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and serves as the Vice-Chair of the Neurology Section's Spinal Cord Injury Special Interest Group.  She is also a member of the International Functional Electrical Stimulation Society.

Dr. Maritz is a board-certified geriatric clinical specialist. She holds a doctoral degree in education from Nova Southeastern University in Florida, a master's degree in gerontology from Saint Joseph's University and a physical therapy certificate from Hahnemann University. She also earned a BS in biology from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University). Dr. Maritz is a member of the geriatric and education sections of the American Physical Therapy Association and sits on the board of directors of ElderNet of Lower Merion and Narberth. She has presented at numerous conferences and has co-authored publications on aging and teaching methodologies.

Dr. Miller received his BS in physical therapy from New York University, his master's degree in health science from Washington University and his doctorate in educational psychology from Temple University. His interests include falls in the elderly and higher education assessment. He has presented nationally.

Ms. Packel is an APTA Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy. She earned her BA in biological sciences from the University of Delaware and her MS in physical therapy from Boston University. She has research and clinical interests in oncology, obesity management and cardiovascular changes after cancer treatment. Ms. Packel is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association Acute Care and Oncology Sections. Ms Packel is a consultant for Oncolink, a national website for cancer information. She has presented nationally and been published in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Scanlon earned her Certificate in Physical Therapy from Hahneman University and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University. Dr. Scanlon is a board-certified orthopaedic clinical specialist and a Diplomate in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy as awarded by the McKenzie Institute International. She is a member of the orthopedic, health policy and administration sections as well as a former board of director for the Private Practice section of the APTA. Her area of interest lies in mechanical diagnostic classification and treatment of the spine and extremity joints.

Dr. Thielman received his BS and MS in physical therapy from Springfield College and his doctorate in education with a movement sciences focus at Columbia University. He has interests in both geriatrics and neurology. Dr. Thielman is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the National Athletic Trainers Association, and has presented and been published nationally.

Amy C. Van Kleunen, PT, MPT, MS, CLT

Ms. Van Kleunen received a BS and an MPT from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. She also completed an MS in Health Adminsitration and Health Education at St. Joseph's University. She is the Director of Clinical Education and is responsible for teaching PT 556 Clinical Education I, PT 655 Clinical Education II, PT 656 Clinical Education III, PT 659 Clinical Education IV, PT 553 Clinical Decision Making II, and PT 547 Examination and Intervention of Specific Systems.  Ms. Van Kleunen's clinical interests include treatment of Urinary Incontinence and Integumentary Disorders, and she is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies. She is an APTA credentialed Clinical Instructor. She is an active member of the APTA, with involvement in the Education, Geriatrics, Clinical Electrophysiology and Wounds, and Health Policy and Administration Sections, as well as having served as the secretary for the Southeast District of the PPTA. Ms. Van Kleunen serves as the faculty liaison to the Physical Therapy Club

Susan Wainwright, PT, PhD

Dr. Wainwright received her BS, MPT and MS from University of the Sciences’ predecessor, the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. She earned her doctorate in physical therapy from Temple University. Her interests include clinical decision-making and neuro-rehabilitation. She is a member of the research and neurology sections of the American Physical Therapy Association and a member of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society. She has presented nationally and has published textbooks.
