Relevant Business Experience:

28 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, most recently:

  • Vice President of Amgens, the worlds largest biotechnology company
  • Other companies include, Ingelheim and Warner Lambert
  • Worked in areas of sales, marketing, reimbursement, and government affairs

Professor Ashton spent the last 16 years in positions of increasing importance at Amgen, the world’s leading biotech company. During those years at Amgen, which was voted Forbes Magazines Company of the Year in 2004, he had a steady and spectacular increase in responsibilities including moving from District Manager to Regional Manager, Northeast, to Vice President of US Sales, to Business Unit VP/General Manager, and finally, most recently, becoming Vice President of Commercial Affairs and Reimbursement. In this capacity, Professor Ashton was responsible for strategy development and execution of plans of action for key government agencies including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid issues, the Office of the Inspector General and others. 

Relevant Research Experience:

Masters thesis paper was on “A Comparison Between Teacher Centered and Individualized Instruction in Science Classes” teaching the same material.

Personal Teaching Philosophy:

My areas of expertise include government affairs, sales, marketing, and learner centered methods of teaching. I feel that sharing my 28 years of experience in the industry and helping develop the next generation of leaders in the industry, are the most important things I can do to impact the future of the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries.

In addition to my teaching and consulting responsibilities through the University of the Sciences, I am on the boards of the National Osteoporosis Society and the Duke University- Fuqua School of Business Healthcare Advisory Board, the National Pharmaceutical Council, and Constella Healthcare.
