Occupational History

Paula's juggles her primary family occupations with her interests in occupational therapy. She is married to David, a business executive, and they are the proud parents of Andrew, their eleven-year old son. Paula enjoys theater, traveling, shopping and especially spending time with family and good friends. She has recently been to Australia and Italy, and is planning a trip to Alaska. Paula lives in Central New Jersey.

She enjoys the role of professor and scholar in occupational therapy. She received the prestigious Fellow (FAOTA) designation from AOTA for her service and scholarly contributions to the profession in the area of pediatrics. Paula has been very active in the profession serving on the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Association (ACOTE), and is on the AOTA Board of Directors. Paula received her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D in Occupational Therapy from New York University.

Clinical Practice

Early intervention, pediatric practice, sensory integration and learning disabilities. 

Area of Research

The relationship between theory and practice, pediatric evaluation practices, and intervention models with the well elderly.

Recent Scholarship

Paula completed investigating ways to enhance the quality of life for the well elderly in assisted living, through the use of occupational and physical therapy. This project was funded by a grant from the PHA Foundations of New Jersey, Inc. She has written extensively on the relationship between theory and practice, particularly in the area of pediatrics and frames of reference. She has co-authored several texts and chapters on pediatric practice and assessment & evaluations. She is currently writing the third edition of "Frames of Reference for Pediatric Occupational Therapy."
